OSCAR 1932-2014

I may have shed a tear or two while putting together this tribute for one of the greatest American designers, Oscar de la Renta. The legendary designer died Monday night at the age of 82. He dressed celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker [pictured above at this year's Met Gala] to first ladies like Jacqueline Kennedy. But one of the facts that impressed me most about the designer was that he trained with Balenciaga - tutelage under one of the greatest couturiers in the world set the foundation for the house of de la Renta. Oscar de la Renta was the personification of style, elegance and sophistication. He will not be forgotten. R.I.P. View Photos:

RECAP: Finding Dad: "Mira... tu Papa"

"E. Vincent Martinez and Gil Guillama are true documentarians. Thank you for sharing this personal experience with the world. You captured the poignancy of what is Cuban diaspora."

"I was so moved by the film and especially touched by the strength of your mother. I hope this documentary finds the broad audience it deserves."

With comments like these, what else can I say but that I am honored and humbled by the outpouring of enthusiaum and support for Finding Dad: "Mira... tu Papa.

I can speak for my co-filmmaker Gil Guillama, that the amazing reception to our documentary has exceeded any and all expectations. We're thrilled.

What's next? Gil and I have started the submission process to film festivals nationwide. We'll let you know!!

A Perfect Fall Brunch

A week ago, my good friend Laura had me over to her amazing home for brunch. Laura has impeccable taste in fashion, interior design and culinary arts so I knew I was in for a treat. Not that her company alone wouldn't suffice, but c'mon, we all like nice things and special touches. Laura served a meal, perfect for that transitional period between seasons. The heavy hitters were homemade crab cakes, so scrumptious and paired with a spicy sauce I can't pronounce, and to start, lobster bisque. To balance things out and maintain a summery appeal, we had a fresh green salad accompanied with a fruit salad loaded with sweet watermelon. Rather than mimosas, Laura switched out the orange juice for pomegranate. Great twist! Delicious food, a beautiful setting and fabulous company, Laura is the perfect hostess ... I could learn a lot from her! [Can't forget dessert...] Oreo truffles, I died and went to Heaven.
