Max Makes a Million. Through July 21. Alliance Theatre. This theatrical adaptation of Maira Kalman’s one-of-a-kind book Max Makes A Million includes poetry, dance, jazz, and visual art. Celebrated theatre artist Liz Diamond adapted and directed the show, which follows Max Stravinsky, a beat-poet dog, on his journey to Paris to celebrate those wishful thinkers who dare to dream beyond what seems possible. In collaboration with this Alliance Theatre show, the High Museum of Art presents The Pursuit of Everything: Maira Kalman’s Books for Children, a colorful exhibition exploring the imaginative stories and illustrations that Kalman has brought to readers of the past 30 years. Tickets and information on the Alliance Theatre website.

Come From Away. June 25 – 30. Broadway Across America @ Fox Theatre. The true story of a small Newfoundland town and unexpected guests in the week following September 11, 2001. The Canadian musical beautifully reenacts the events that followed after 38 planes were ordered to land unexpectedly in the small town of Gander in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, as part of Operation Yellow Ribbon. The musical’s characters are based on (and often share the names of) real Gander residents and some of the 7,000 stranded travelers they welcomed, housed, fed, and befriended. Tickets and information on the Fox Theatre website.
