POP! 6 Ways to Incorporate Color Into Your Look This Fall

how-to-add-color-to-your-fall-wardrobe-fashionado
As summer simmers down and fall takes its turn, misguided fashionistas everywhere are ditching their colorful pastels and flirty frocks for neutral hues and dark layers. You may have to let go of your bikini and golden tan once the seasons change, but don't you dare turn away from color this fall. Here are six ways to go bold and bright with an autumn twist.

Designer Handbag

Congratulations to me: Starting a new job is like the first day of school. It's nerve-racking yet exciting, and it's the perfect excuse to buy new clothes. To really make a statement on the first day, a professional gal needs a brand-new designer tote bag. Yes, designer, because you deserve to indulge in luxury as a reward to yourself. A leather Coach tote in loganberry or purple iris will colorfully complement your fresh fall wardrobe and stylishly carry your tablet, Moleskine notebook and backup beauty supplies.

Ankle Booties

Fall streetwear: Trade in summer's high wedges and slingback flat sandals for booties in hot autumn hues like rust, teal, olive or mustard. Ankle booties are a versatile fashion piece that can be totally casual or très chic. Pair crimson-colored booties with leather skinnies and a noir blazer to create a sultry look for late-night drinks. Meeting up with girlfriends for a Saturday lunch? Accent rolled slouchy boyfriend jeans and an oversized sweater with striking cobalt booties.

Smock Dress

Alfresco affair: Every girl deserves to shine every now and again, but birthdays only come once a year. If you're in the mood to be in the spotlight, play hostess as the star of your own party. Turn your event into an intimate outdoor soiree, like a backyard bohemian garden get-together or rooftop dinner party. Since you're the leading lady, you'll need to don a knockout outfit. Bright print mashups and bold colors are de rigueur, even post-summertime. Throw on tights and either knee-high or combat boots to autumn-ize the look.

Eyeshadow

Be fierce: 'Tis the season to eat, drink and sleep pumpkin everything, so why not incorporate pumpkin into your eye makeup? Stylist Janice Daoud tells TotalBeauty.com that orange-based eye shadow can make blue eyes pop and accentuate brown eyes, too. Daoud recommends creamsicle shades for fair skin tones, coral hues for medium skin tones and bright tangerine for darker skin tones. Neutralize the rest of the face with nude colors, and make sure the colors of your clothes and accessories don't compete, either.

Hair Color

Change with the season: Enhance your hair color to match the changing colors of the fall foliage. Marie Claire featured Jessica Biel's honey-toned locks and Olivia Palermo's glossy mahogany mane. For a more subtle change, warm yellow-blonde hair with golden highlights or color brunette layers with a rich rustic red. A sassy new 'do will make you feel like an audacious beauty who isn't afraid to take risks.

Mix & Match

Casual glam: Even fashionistas like to kick it casual and keep it comfy. Look super cute while keeping it low key by wearing a striped three-length tee or classic houndstooth sweater. Don't hesitate to mix and match stripes and houndstooth patterns with floral prints, either. Any true fashionista knows that rules are meant to be broken.

Alexander Wang's Sneaker Bag for Spring 2015

Alexander-Wang-sneaker-bag-fashionado

Has the sneaker replaced the stiletto? Well, not exactly, but this fashion season it surely has sprinted its way onto the fashion week runways. Most recently at Alexander Wang for Spring 2015. The collection was inspired by the inherent design attributes of the sneaker like mesh, leather and treading. Eye-popping patterns on body con dresses and high-waisted pants successfully blurred the lines between sport and high fashion. My obsession with the collection, which is what I am featuring here, is the sneaker bag! O-Em -Gee... These bags are amazing. Their style overrides their kitschy quality making these sneaker bags very chic and I predict they will become the must-have accessory for Spring.Take a look:

THOM BROWNE Spring 2015

Thom-Browne-Spring-2015-fashionado

Thom Browne's garden was in full bloom for Spring 2015. There truly are no limits to the designer's genius. How can one individual contain so much in their head I don't know ... but keep them coming Thom! As usual, the looks are heavily layered and accessorized, but a closer inspection reveals something you don't always see in a Thom Browne show - wearability. Remove a coat and some of the facial gear and you're good to go. But leave the hats! The fabulous, sculptural masterpieces by milliner Stephen Jones who collaborated with Browne's vision to produce these exquisite pieces. View Collection:

Dinner & Reading with Rosie Perez

rosie-perez-book-the-view-fashionado

Such an amazing evening with the one and only Rosie Perez! She came through Atlanta and stopped by Tree Sound Studios for an intimate dinner, reading and discussion about her book: Handbook for an Unpredictable Life: How I Survived Sister Renata and My Crazy Mother, and Still Came Out Smiling (with Great Hair). The conversation was moderated by Tree Sound Studio's GM (and Rosie's longtime friend) Mali Hunter who made it clear from the start that we would not be talking about "that TV show on ABC..." Of course, she was referring to The View where Rosie Perez joins Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O'Donnell as a new host.

I just got a copy of Rosie's book and I can't wait to dive in, especially after last night. When the book was first published, Rosie experienced a wave of negativity and backlash. Not having read the book yet myself, I'm not entirely sure what about - though I have an idea. Everything changed, Rosie explained, when Piers Morgan called her up, said" I understand your book and I want to you discuss it on my show." After that interview, apologies and praise flooded Perez.

There were plenty of laughs last night as well. Rosie had everyone in stitches with her story about the first time she appeared on Soul Train. This was hysterical. At home, Rosie said, she had all the dance moves down. It's easy when watching from your television because you make no mistakes. That was not the case when the moment of truth arrived. The Soul Train producer counted her down, 5-4-3-2-1 "GO!" It was time to show off your dance skills through the line. You've only rehearsed this moment one thousand+ times. Rosie got a brain and body freeze. The cameras were on her but she couldn't remember the dance steps so she improvised. Rosie made a new dance up from the moves she remembered and went through the line, nervous as hell, anxiety ridden and dry heaving. When she reached the end of the line, feeling a sense of relief that it was over, she was turned around and pushed back through a second, unexpected time!

Cats, dogs and children are all philanthropic causes for Rosie Perez. I've always been a fan of hers but I've gained even greater respect after listening to the story of her life. So inspiring and with all of her success, Rosie remains very humble. [And yes, I'm so excited to see a Latina on The View!!]

What does the future hold for Rosie Perez, in addition to all the wonderful happenings currently on her (very full) plate... She's headed to Broadway to star in Larry David's "Fish In The Dark."

The Little Red Dress by Kate Spade @ 310 Rosemont Atlanta

kate-spade-dress-fashionado

There's an undeniable allure about a lady in red. She has the power to stop traffic and turn heads. This sizzling number by Kate Spade at 310 Rosemont stopped me dead in my tracks when I visited the Virginia Highland boutique this weekend. Maybe it's the structured pleats or the dramatic bow that I find so appealing? Or maybe it's the open back which give this classic dress a modern edge? Either way, this holiday cocktail season, make RED the new LBD!
