Basic Rights Clothing Debuts New York City Pop Up

BASIC RIGHTS DEBUTS NEW YORK CITY POP UP + DROPS NEW CAMPAIGN IMAGERY
ONE WEEK OF EVERY BASIC FOR YOU / YOUR MAN

BASIC RIGHTS is a menswear label made up of well designed, well fit, and practically priced, wardrobe essentials. The brand launched in February of 2016 with a collection of elevated classics which featured absolutely zero branding on the clothing, an intentional move by the brand’s founder Freddie Cowan, known best for his role as lead guitarist in the band The Vaccines. Cowan, who had set out to create a wardrobe of beautifully designed, but reasonably priced, essential items that were easily integrated into every man’s wardrobe, found a key partner in Savile Row tailor David Chambers, who collaborated with Cowan on the rollout of his debut collection of essential menswear items. On November 1st, 2016, Cowan will debut the ecommerce focused label at the brand’s first brick + mortar popup shop, slated to open doors in Manhattan’s Lower East Side with their range of menswear essentials that marry high quality construction, fabric, and fit at practical price- points ($45 for a T-shirt to $200 for a jacket). Basic Rights limits their product offering to pieces that Cowan feels could, and should, be the foundation for a modern man's wardrobe. Check it out from November 1 – November 6 at 2 Rivington Street in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

In conjunction with opening shop in the LES, Cowan simultaneously releases the new campaign imagery for Basic Rights. A preview of the new Basic Rights Winter 2016 imagery, included below, features a lineup of Cowan's closest musically talented friends, including the likes of Matt Hitt, Albert Hammond Jr., Winston Marshall, and Alan Pownall, all shot by Christiaan Felber.

4 Must-have Textures this Season

A few weeks ago I wandered into The Tough Boot & Co in Atlanta. This is the coolest place featuring a very curated selection of choice denim, leather and overall badassery menswear. When their style tips showed up in my inbox, I couldn't agree more and just had to share it with you. The Tough Boot & Co says:

Fall/Winter is the best time to experiment with textures and layers. Garments with heavier textures will add depth to your look. Here, we put together a condensed version of what men are starting to wear this Fall/Winter 2016 season.
-Tweed
Tweed is a woolen fabric, of a soft, open, flexible texture, resembling cheviot or homespun, but more closely woven. It is usually woven with a plain weave, twill or herringbone structure.
There is a world of textures when it comes to Tweed.
-Herringbone
-Plaid
-Donegal
Color effects in the yarn may be obtained by mixing dyed wool before it is spun.

-Flannel
Flannel is a soft, fuzzy woolen fabric, with a napped surface. The fabric comes in different weights and it is perfect for winter shirts to thick blazers.

-Corduroy
Are we back in the seventies?? The renaissance of corduroy has been a difficult one but it is definitely an interesting texture to add to one’s outfit to add warmth and depth. Use your corduroy wisely as too much of this fabric will make you look like my grandpa.

-Knits
Knitted ties and sweaters are definitely a great way to add texture to your look. Silk knit ties are a must have for almost any season of the year, while fisherman or cable sweaters are perfect for a crisp fall or winter weekend. Find sweaters with a slim fit so you can use them as a mid layer with out looking bulky or fluffy.

-Waxed Canvas
Waxed Canvas is a cotton sturdy fabric that has been treated with a protective wax coating to make it water resistant. Waxed Canvas is usually rigid and it is always used as a shell or outer layer. It is a great option to keep your layers dry and add a great deal of masculinity to your look.

The textures and fabrics mentioned above can actually be layered with each other and with basic denim to create an interesting warm look. Keep your colors neutral and balanced with your textures and fabrics. You can add splashes of color with your accessories like belts, scarves, and even shoes or boots.

FILA and CLSC Collaborate On Two Original Tennis

When CLSC LA opened back in the summer of 2015, it was destined to be a streetwear bright spot. Pronounced "CLASSIC,” in just a little over a year the Southern California based brand and retailer is now stocked in over 300 handpicked boutiques around the world. CLSC LA calls Fairfax Avenue home, a main north-south thoroughfares of Central LA; spanning 5-miles in length and easily one of the country’s hottest retail locations. But nestled within the budding culture of Fairfax stands CSLC, built on the providing consumers various brands including their own. The connection between CLSC and FILA came together a number of seasons back at the Agenda Tradeshow. “Fila is one of the first brand of shoes I owned,” explains owner Joshua Vides. “If you could afford the all-white Original Tennis you were the man. Wearing FILA’s in my neighborhood meant you were part of a certain community, so I had to go with that silhouette.”

The end result would be two limited edition runs of the Original Tennis. On one hand you have one with an all-over red suede upper atop a very icy outsole. The other hand presents a blue canvas upper with a white toe cap atop a translucent gum bottom. “I made the red suede with the icy sole for myself now, and the blue canvas with the white toe cap that a 12 year old me would want,” explains Vides. “See our shoes would get torn apart at the toe cuz we "tried", to skateboard. By adding the rubber toe the shoes longevity is prolonged and in my honest opinion, I had to do something with the Original Tennis that has never been done before.

The CLSC X FILA Original Tennis pack drops exclusively at Friday October 21, 2016 exclusively at CLSC LA and online at www.clsclife.com

PUMA ANNOUNCES CARA DELEVINGNE AS THE NEW FACE OF THE ‘DO YOU’ WOMEN’S CAMPAIGN

CARA DELEVINGNE puma fashionado

Global Sports Brand PUMA launches their women’s campaign ‘DO YOU’ which aims to inspire confidence in women everywhere. As part of this campaign, PUMA announces they will be working with international model, actress, and activist Cara Delevingne. She joins PUMA’s growing list of influential female ambassadors including Rihanna, who served as the campaign’s Creative Director.

“To ‘DO YOU’ is to take ownership of yourself and finding the power within that ownership —it's a very powerful statement,” says Cara. “It's about accepting who you are, no matter your faults.  ’DO YOU’ is about finding your truth and sticking to it. I think it's so special because it means something different for everyone.  It specifically encourages people to be themselves.”

Cara embodies the PUMA Woman. She is fearless, always finding new ways to express herself and use her body as a catalyst for conversation. Her unapologetic attitude and inspiring defiance of the status quo will set the tone for this campaign. She leads the pack of strong women appearing in this campaign, including Mimi Staker and Olivia Boisson of the New York City Ballet, German track and field athletes Alexandra Wester and Tatjana Pinto, and Cuban volleyball players Leila Consuelo Ortega Martinez and Lianma Flores Stable.

The campaign was inspired by Rihanna who once said “I dare myself to make things work. I don’t do things for the response or controversy. I just live my life.” The campaign inspires women to stay true to themselves, make their own rules, and never take ‘no’ for an answer. It creates a conversation that encourages women to be confident, motivated, and never willing to compromise on anything from their personal style to their workouts to their life. Given Rihanna’s own belief on this message, it made perfect sense to bring her on board with PUMA to creative direct the campaign featuring Cara.

The ‘DO YOU’ campaign launches this month with a cross-category product assortment dropping through December from PUMA’s Running & Training and Sportstyle collections. Cara will be featured in outdoor advertising, PUMA stores and retailers, and PUMA.com
