It's National Bow Tie Day!

Bow Ties
Bow Ties

Today we celebrate the bow tie and its place in fashion. Because I'm in gym attire, if I'd sport a bow tie I would surely draw unwanted looks and glances at the gym. SO... instead I will honor my favorites. [From the top] a navy blue vintage bow tie with a repetitive pattern. The middle one was given to me by designer Viktor Luna. It's one of his digitally printed designs. And the third bow tie, a handsome black & gray camo pattern from Neiman Marcus. Happy National Bow Tie Day!

Project Runway Season 12 Bow Ties

Project Runway Ties the Knot with Jesse Tyler Ferguson

Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson & Tim Gunn in the Project Runway workroom at Parsons

The drama that lacked on the runway was very prevalent backstage. In one word: Sandro.... but more about this insanity later. Now for the good stuff. A very dapper Tim Gunn and Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson delivered what at first seemed like a menswear challenge. I wish! (Instead) Ferguson presented his collection of bow ties from the Tie the Knot charity that he and his fiance started. Ferguson challenged the designers to create a look inspired by the bow ties. At least on tie had to be incorporated into the design. As much fun as this challenge appeared to be, it also proved to be more difficult than anyone anticipated. You'll see.

Ladies. Would you wear this? You're answer better be "Hell NO!" Alexandria, no words. I can't.

Hey look everybody, Brooks Brothers threw up on her shoulders. Drag Queen designer Alexander had a good concept but ran in the wrong direction with it. The outfit needs more tailoring for a better fit and the assortment of bow ties looks like a department store display.

Sweet. Fragile. Delicate Helen. Her tattoos are just a front for her insecurities. She'll be

aufed

soon. Of course, not before another meltdown.

Jeremy spent too much time on that dowdy lace top that only a slutty Victorian would wear. Here's how he could have "made it work" in three easy steps: 1. make it short sleeved; 2. lose the frumpy ruffled peplum; 3. cover the fucking navel!

Easy.

And then he would have had more time to better tailor the pants.

Justin admitted his design was boring. I won't disagree but will offer advice. Because the style and construction are good, what's lacking is your basic flare. He could have used brightly colored bow ties for the seaming OR chosen a different color for the front panel. Or sides.

I'm a sucker for polka-dots so Karen gets instant brownie points for this one. Unfortunately, she loses them with the pants. LOOK at that crotch! OMG... how Karen didn't see that at the fitting, I don't know. Tisk, tisk.

She's been making the judges happy. Kate is doing is right. The blouse is not my fave but the pants, oh yeah. They are a winner, impressing the judges with her use of pattern and bow tie shape references.

Where's the beef? Or in this case, the bow ties?? Ken fell short this week. As mush as I like the leather dress, the white top feels more like an after thought. A cheap solution for incorporating a bow tie.

If there's ever been a moment to NOT listen to Tim Gunn, this what it. Too bad Miranda listened and (poorly) cropped the silk blouse in a hurried attempt to give the outfit sex appeal. Do you realize that at this point, Miranda has sent a midriff bearing look onto the runway for every challenge?

Awful! Sue. Oh. I chose this back view because that's how I liked this dress... walking away! Not be seen again!

This is the dress that should have won. Dom did the best, most conceptual and successful integration of the given criteria. Smart. Modern. Well planned out and executed. Perfectly styled. And while it was a judge's favorite it fell shy of winning.

bradon-project-runway-fashionado

Bradon won the challenged. Don't hate me Project Runway but this was so obviously staged. It just so happened that Bradon proposed to his partner of eighteen years while on the runway. It just so happened that the proposal came on the day of the historic DOMA ruling. AND it just so happens that Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Tie the Knot is an advocacy group for gay civil rights and marriage equality. READ the gay writing on the wall ... this dancin' queen was gonna win no matter what! Dom, too bad you're not a lesbian.

I saved the best and worst for last. Project Runway

did

do something right by eliminating crazyfucker Sandro. First of all, the dress. Can you all say HIDEOUS together with me? All together at the same time, now: HIDEOUS. Sandro has proven challenge after challenge that he has NO sense of style. His taste level is, well, HIDEOUS. And so is his character, personality and behavior. He got into a shouting match backstage causing Helen to cry, surprise surprise. Ken lost his cool and later sent an apologetic tweet. Sandro, who was "safe" from elimination btw, questioned the judges in his typical confrontational tone. Heidi and the others were baffled. Sandro got himself

aufed

by walking out of the show. I mean storming out. Knocking down dress forms and camera equipment. He desperately needs anger management.
