“THE SNOW CRYSTAL FOREST”
For this couture collection, designer Ziad Nakad proposes his romantic vision of a season in magic colors where white predominates. A white that appears as cold as snow and that gradually heats up when velvet, feathers, tulle and lace are interwoven through learned embroideries.
Numerous cut-outs on the back and shoulders draw the body to reveal a bewitching femininity. Navy, gray and red enriches the colors of this magical forest. And a bride like a queen of an exceptional night, dressed in white and gold that illuminates this universe fit to the legends of a thousand and one nights.
Versace’s update resulted in major, majorevening—a bravura performance of high-octane, super-sexy, and exquisitely and inventively worked looks, all bronze metallic scale embroideries, silver chains suspended in cobweb-like formations, and an embellishment that looked like crystal but which was actually beads faced with silver leaf. It was a representation of flowers, exquisitely interpreted through the finest tulle, embroidery and crystals. Giambattista Valli's spring 2016 haute couture collection delivered a fresh bouquet of youth in beautiful dresses, short and long. I do question Valli's casting, however. These models look sixteen and while they are absolutely amazing in these dresses, the couture client is sixteen about three times over. Of course, one can argue that Valli is setting up to pass the couture torch to the daughters of their clients. After all, haute couture is a lifestyle meant to transcend generations. Back to the dresses... the gowns at the end of the show were breathtaking. I predict some will work their way onto the red carpet this award season.
It didn't take John Galliano long, but I think that's something Maison Margiela was hoping for when they made him creative director. His thought process is unique and complex. For Fall 2015 Couture, Galliano / Margiela played with contrasts. He makes us think about scale, proportion, beauty and masculinity... Look through the collection and you'll find that while most looks are not so appealing, you can't stop looking. The collection lures you in and seduces the mind.
