BESPOKE-INSPIRED, LUXURY MEN’S SHOEMAKER COBBLER UNION TO OPEN SECOND RETAIL STORE IN ATLANTA’S PONCE CITY MARKET

On Thursday, September 1st, two-year-old Atlanta-based shoemaker Cobbler Union will open their second brick-and-mortar retail location on the second floor of Ponce City Market.

Small-batch, luxury men’s shoe brand Cobbler Union is the result of two life-long friends and a cobbler who embarked on a journey to bring luxury shoes to men around the world. After spending three years at a shoemaking studio in Barcelona that sold their product for around $4,000 a pair, they were dissatisfied with the high-price point and lack of accessibility associated with luxury, bespoke shoes. They aimed to utilize their skilled craft and create a brand that appealed to a wider audience. Thus, Cobbler Union was born – a new type of luxury company rooted in the high standards of shoemaking but designed to offer men the highest quality shoes at accessible prices, starting at $395. The brand recognizes the role that shoes play in a man’s life, and it is their belief that beautifully crafted, quality shoes have the power to transform.

After two years of success in e-commerce and a year of brick-and-mortar retail at their Inman Park location, Cobbler Union will open in a 1,037-square-foot showroom – double the size of their exiting location – within Ponce City Market.

“Jamestown spent a lot of time and energy to preserve the beauty and legacy of the Sears, Roebuck and Co. building with the vision of Ponce City Market. This same kind of passion for legacy and attention to details is what we obsess over at Cobbler Union. Our goal - to help preserve the art and craft of shoemaking while providing men around the world with exquisite shoes - will fit in well within the walls of PCM. Cobbler Union and Ponce City Market both opened their doors for the first time two years ago and we very much look forward to growing together with them.” – Stephen Beehler, Cobbler Union co-founder.

Cobbler Union will continue to honor and replicate the uniqueness of the bespoke experience at the new location with features such as their made-to-order (MTO) program, belt-cutting display and weekly Sip n’ Shine events. With the MTO program, customers will be able to shop existing styles and transform them to their liking by selecting the leather and sole to create their own unique, one-of-a-kind creation. In effort to showcase the quality of craftsmanship, there will be a table in-store where they will feature the cutting of leather belts. In addition, Cobbler Union at Ponce City Market will host a weekly Sip n’ Shine event, every Thursday evening from 6PM - 8PM, inviting customers and friends to shop, get their shoes shined and have a drink.

Cobbler Union at Ponce City Market will celebrate their soft opening on Friday, September 1st, host their fist Sip n’ Shine event on Thursday, September 15th, and a grand opening event on Thursday, September 29th.

The Alton Lane Experience

My Alton Lane experience began with a bourbon on the rocks and a friendly conversation with Alton Lane style expert Calvin Fields. I learned that we would be alone for the fitting because Alton Lane operates by appointment only. There's much to be said about 100% undivided attention. It's all about you at Alton Lane.

Before taking measurements, Calvin and I chose the specifics of [my] shirt. Everyone can be a designer at Alton Lane - [you] choose the textile, print, collar spread, pocket - no-pocket, cuff style, you name it! And if it gets a little overwhelming making so many decisions, no worries because Calvin knows his "stuff" and will guide you all the way. Two special features that are included with their service is the option to choose an accent fabric for the inside of your cuffs and the embroidering of your initials.

Now it was time for the fitting. Alton Lane handles your measurements in three different ways for maximum accuracy. Their clothing will truly fit you impeccably. Calvin took my measurements the traditional way, with a measuring tape. Then we went high-tech, for real! Alton Lane uses a 3D body scanner that takes your measurement, head-to-toe. You stand still for 30 seconds and allow the camera's to do its thing. Lastly, just to back all this up, I put on a sample shirt. This allowed Calvin to take even more precise measurements for the best, most custom fit possible.

My shirt will be ready in about two weeks or so. I'll return to Alton Lane (in the afternoon so I can enjoy another bourbon) and Calvin will conduct one final fitting.

Most of us shop off the rack. I promise you, nothing compares to custom tailored clothing. If you're thinking this is a luxury outside your realm, check out the Alton Lane website and think again!

Book an appointment with Calvin Fields (888.800.8616)... start with a shirt, play it safe if you wish... but you'll be hooked and move up to a suit or tuxedo next.
