Nando’s Spices Up Atlanta with 10-Day Pop-Up on the Atlanta BeltLine

Nando’s PERi-PERI, the Most Famous Sauce You’ve Never Heard of,
Now Widely Available in Atlanta and Across the Nation

Nando’s PERi-PERi, the most popular hot sauce from England to Australia, is now widely available in Atlanta, throughout Georgia and in over 10,000 of the nation’s biggest retailers including Safeway, Kroger, Fresh Market, Walmart and Publix. And to celebrate, Nando’s is throwing a 10-day pop-up party on the BeltLine to introduce Atlanta to the most famous sauce you’ve never heard of.

From Thursday May 5 to Saturday May 14, Nando’s will transform the Atlanta Beltline Bicycle warehouse into a vibrant party space and will kick off festivities with a Braai, a traditional South African party involving friends, fire and delicious Nando’s food. In addition, Nando’s surprise-and-delight teams have been leaving artfully designed packages of PERi-PERi sauce—bearing postmarks from Nando’s home in southern Africa—on the doorknobs of 40,000 fortunate souls in Midtown, the Old Fourth Ward, Decatur and other Atlanta neighborhoods.

The Nando’s pop-up, at 151 Sampson Street on the Beltline, started with an Instagram meetup on Thursday May 5. On Friday, Justin Anthony, master chef behind Atlanta’s Cape Dutch, 10 Degrees South and Biltong Bar, manned the grills at a killer Braai and help tell the story of Nando’s.  Anthony grew up within walking distance of one of the very first Nando’s restaurants in his hometown of Johannesburg, and will share his love of PERi-PERi. “You can say I’m mildly obsessed. I grew up eating Nando’s pretty much every day,” he said.

Nando’s PERi-PERi sauce is packed with flavor because it is made with sun-ripened lemons, onion, a dash of garlic and blended with our special ingredient – the African Bird’s Eye Chilli pepper. PERi-PERi (Swahili for ‘pepper pepper’) is the heart and soul of Nando’s PERi-PERi and the secret ingredient behind our 1,200 restaurants worldwide. One bite, and you will be hooked.

The 10-day Nando’s PERi-PERi pop-up will feature:

- The first time that Nando’s succulent PERi-PERi chicken—marinated for 24 hours and flame-grilled to perfection—will be served in Atlanta

- Local delicacies including PERi-PERi infused Old 4th Distillery Vodka and popsicles from King of Pops

-  Atlanta artists including DJ Santiago and muralist and illustrator Barry Lee

- Special Braais for local musicians, artists, foodies, fitness gurus and South African ex-pats

- Chicken and waffles brunches featuring PERi-PERi Bloody Marys

Why Atlanta? Nando’s is heating up Atlanta to celebrate the wide availability of PERi-PERi in Atlanta supermarkets. Atlanta also has a thriving community of South African ex-pats and a long tradition of loving chicken. Put it all together and we just know Atlantans will become Nando’s fans!

*My Nando's PERI-PERI experience was beyond amazing. It was the most delicious food ever, so flavorful and moist. I wanted more, except I was FULL! I did, however, take home a bottle of Nando's! YOU can too! CLICK on this link Nandosatl.com/saucygift  and get a friend a free bottle of Nando's (and then have them do the same for you!)

Dining at The Cockentrice

Last night, I had the pleasure of dining at The Cockentrice, located at one of Atlanta's newest hotspots, Krog Market. The Cockentrice, owned by Chef Kevin Ouzts of The Spotted Trotter - the best meat/butcher shop in town btw- is more than just a restaurant. We often hear of how chefs are like artists and cooking is their medium, well, let me tell you, that statement has never been more accurate when it comes to Chef Kevin and the fine cuisine at The Cockentrice.

A true dining experience is one that seduces all the senses. My out-of-town friend, Meg and I were seduced with cheeses, charcuterie and lamb. She had a vodka, I had a bourbon and soon after that, heaven in your mouth arrived to the table, a.ka. pork belly jalepeno poppers. They were sweet and melted at first bite. The Cockentrice is known for their charcuterie so that was an absolute must. The cheeses, meats, candied nuts, honey and oxtail pate, something new Chef Kevin brought out for us, were to die for. And finally, the main course of lamb and potato, which I am a little embarrassed to admit was eaten in under five minutes because it was just that delicious and so flavorful.

The Cockentrice, has now officially become one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The food is spectacular. Culinary masterpieces from an extremely talented artist. The space and ambiance is very welcoming - chic but not pretentious and the wait staff, first class. I highly recommend a dining experience at The Cockentrice. You will not be disappointed.

"The Cockentrice is Chef Kevin Ouzts’ celebration of charcuterie and long-awaited execution of meat cookery — melding traditional and modern cooking techniques plucked from the rich heritage of the Southern United States and beyond."

Secret Supper: Hampton + Hudson's Private Dinner at Frye Atlanta

Restaurateurs Billy and Jenn Streck are set to open their first solo concept, Hampton + Hudson - a community driven bar and restaurant located in Inman Park at 280 Elizabeth Street this winter. Billy, best-known as co-owner of the bustling, Midtown hotspots Cypress Street Pint and Plate and GRAIN drink shop and eatery, is set to create another approachable and affordable haunt with his wife in one of Atlanta’s fastest growing neighborhoods. Jenn, an Atlanta native, has years of experience in both the music and bar industries and brings a wealth of talent and vision to their first concept. Together the two are striving to create a “true community bar and restaurant” that focuses on the overall experience, redefines how diners look at pub food, and features a well-rounded bar program. The 3,500-square foot space, that also boasts a mezzanine, intimate outdoor patio and fire pit, will include distinctive touches inspired by many of their favorite go-to spots from their travels and when they lived in the East Village in New York, but will play to both the spirit of the neighborhood and Atlanta’s ever-growing dining scene.

During a private secret supper at the newly opened The Frye Company Atlanta flagship store, Billy and Jenn Streck revealed that Cooper Miller, formerly of JCT Kitchen & Bar, is going to be the Executive Chef of Hampton + Hudson. The H+H team also created a special five-course menu just for the evening and showcased two cocktails that will be on the menu, the Hampton and the Hudson, along with a beet and carrot salad, shredded snow crab and avocado toast, signature Hot Chicken dish and more.

"This is a place where we wanted to mix a little of all of our loves of the bar and restaurant industry into a community establishment,” said Jenn Streck during the dinner. "We love going to a place and feeling like you are at home, so that is what we hope to do for our guests.”

The exclusive experience featured signature cocktails by Georgia’s own Lovell Bros. Whiskey and brews by Wild Heaven Craft Beers, live acoustic music by Mike LaSage, Bone Lick BBQ’s award-winning chef and pitmaster, and shopping of Frye’s Fall and Winter Collections.

The evening also boasted a who's who of Atlanta media and other notables, including Councilman Kwanza Hall who enlisted my styling services over a pair of Frye boots and wingtips. Sitting to my left was the AJC's Ashley Twist Cole and Jenn Streck to my right. Directly across from me (and in my conversation circle) my friend Tova Gelfond of Eide Magazine, Director Jeff Wadlow who's in town from LA to shoot the True Memoirs of an International Assassin for Netflix and Kate Atwood with ChooseATL. I forced myself to remain cool, calm and collected over one special guest seated directly across from me, because I'm such a huge fan of The Walking Dead, and that guest was Lauren Cohan - totally delightful, fun and down to earth. So I purposely did not bring up TWD and spoke with Lauren about other things like how much we love The Frye Company. At the end of the evening as Lauren gave me a goodbye hug I couldn't resist any longer and simply told her "btw, I'm devastated every Sunday," and she relied with a "yeah... it's good huh?"
