Pick a great base
Every outfit starts with one or two items to form a base. It will either be a one-piece such as a dress, or a two-piece (separates) such as a blouse and a skirt. As soon as you pick out your base, you have a canvas upon which to layer and style into a cohesive outfit. If you have a plain or a block of color you can add patterns to your layers but if it is already patterned you will want to keep things simple.

Balancing Trends
When a new trend comes out on the scene, it can be too easy to get wrapped up in the magic and end up overdoing your look. If you want to avoid this issue you need to remember that you can only add one or two trend items to your look at once. If you go over the top you will end up with a messy and cluttered looking outfit which just won’t fit any particular style. Keep it simple and steer clear if you can.
Fancy Footwork
Shoes can make or break your look, and it is important to always make sure that you pick shoes which are comfortable for you to walk in all day. If you pick a style like a small dress or romper, a pair of flats or white converse can look really cute and quirky. If you have a maxi dress on, a pair of embellished sandals or wedges will be better. Always stick to a style of shoe which fits the look, and don’t go too crazy with color unless you have a monochrome outfit and want to jazz it up with a bold colored shoe such as bright red or jewel tones.

Last but not least will come the decision of which bag to carry your things in for the day. A bag can be a great accessory for any outfit and choosing the right one depends on your style and your activity for the day. Following stops in Berlin with Andreas Murkudis, New York with Barneys New York and Milan with 10 Corso Como, the Los Angeles outpost offers yet another unique viewpoint on design and architecture. It will feature a Limited Edition Cosmetics Kit, as well as a curated edit of BIRKENSTOCK Spring / Summer 18 styles.
The BIRKENSTOCK BOX consists of converted freight containers, which play host to each partner's interior concept and merchandize proposition. In this site-specific iteration, the Box's interior is designed by Rick Owens and incorporates the retail design elements from the Rick Owens New York store.
The Rick Owens BIRKENSTOCK BOX will carry a limited collection of BIRKENSTOCK styles created with Rick Owens, consisting of thirteen sandal styles and three legwear styles. Rick Owens took the classic BIRKENSTOCK styles Arizona, Madrid and Boston and added an element of confection to it by extending the straps almost to the floor and simultaneously extending the holes in the straps. The bespoke styles feature the classic sandal styles in four different fabrications, consisting of army felt, suede, full grain leather and longhair cow fur – all with a full leather footbed lining, retailing from 350 USD to 525 USD. The legwear styles retail from 100 USD.
All bespoke BIRKENSTOCK x Rick Owens sandal and legwear styles are available for pre-order now on rickowens.eu and launch on all Rick Owens and Birkenstock channels in April.
This season saw Christian Louboutin's second collaboration with Michael Halpern’s eponymous brand; the designer’s usual high glamour world taking a bigger, more daring approach for the season, turning traditional eveningwear on its head.
The rock and roll edge of last season was given an even grittier dress code for AW18.
Inspired by seasoned socialite and sartorial rule breaker Nan Kemper, the collection showcased a burst of color wrapped around dazzling super flares, glittering miniskirts paired with embellished t-shirts and a highly crafted shoulder of a jacket irreverently morphed into a luxurious mini dress.
Drawing from the ever-changing landscape of the world’s most famous concrete jungle, exploding peonies and animal prints appeared as recurring themes, elevated to a three-dimensional quality through embellishment and metallic fabric treatments.
The dazzling interpretation of an inappropriate glamour - wearing an evening look at noon, dressing against the dress codes, and the irresistible pleasure of being out of place - was furthered by the addition of customized Christian Louboutin styles inspired by Miss Daisy from the Spring Summer 2018 collection.
Matching the fabrics of the most exceptional outfits, thigh high boots come in a vibrant palette of colors and patterns. The playful mules were a highlight with contrasting color block fragments and multi-colored firework sequins. Self assured ankle boots adorned in Halpern's AW18 zebra flip motif further embodies the freedom from fashion etiquette. All three styles are showcased in a psychedelic fil coupé that comes in both pink and yellow. All sit atop Christian LouboutIn's sculptural SS18 Gueridon heel, reflecting Michael Halpern's creative vision of a silhouette freeze-framing the fleeting moments of ease embodied in the movement of eveningwear.

SCAD FASH presents "Shoes: Pleasure and Pain," an exhibition organized by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, that explores the creativity, cultural significance and transformative power of shoes. The exhibition displays more than 200 pairs of shoes, from ancient Egyptian slippers embellished with gold leaf and the seductive signature red soles of Christian Louboutin heels, to cutting-edge designs created by contemporary designers experimenting with new materials and the latest technology. SCAD FASH is honored to be the only southeastern venue for the exhibition.
In addition to the extraordinary range of historic footwear, "Shoes: Pleasure and Pain" features platform boots worn by Elton John, Princess Diana's shoe lasts, and David Beckham's soccer cleats. Styles by numerous celebrated designers and labels such as Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Nike and Vivienne Westwood, as well as two iconic pairs of shoes from film history — the famous red ballet slippers from the film "The Red Shoes" (1948) and the Swarovski crystal slippers featured in Disney's "Cinderella" (2015) — are also included.
"Shoes: Pleasure and Pain" is curated around five themes: "Transformation," "Status," "Seduction," "Creation" and "Obsession." Designers' sketches, shoemaking materials and historic fashion illustrations provide a deeper understanding of the exhibition's themes. Debuting with the exhibition is "Touching the Sole," a special interactive tactile display that enables visually impaired visitors to engage with replicas of many of the shoes displayed.
