CHIC’S ICONIC SMASH HIT “LE FREAK" RECEIVES AN OLIVER HELDENS MAKEOVER

CHIC-LE-FREAK-BIG-BEAT.jpg

On the 40th-year anniversary of CHIC’s Le Freak” (1978) breaking #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Dutch DJ/house music pioneer Oliver Heldens reinvents the biggest selling track in Atlantic Records history for a very special release out today via Big Beat Records – accompanied by an animated video featuring  Nile, Bernard and Oliver.

Oliver Heldens brings back the heat in a big way, reworking CHIC’s legendary worldwide hit, which deservingly held the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B Charts and was the first song to score the number one position on the Billboard Hot100 three separate times,  while selling over seven million copies worldwide. Heldens adds his signature style to create a contemporary house music anthem with bouncing baselines and smooth, catchy melodies, making it just as much an indulgent tech-house tune as it is a nostalgic trip back to the disco era.

The track has already received enormous response in club rooms internationally, alongside DJ support from A-Trak, Mercer, and Dannic.

The comic-book style video featuring Rodgers, Edwards and Heldens opens with a recalling of the original tale of "Le Freak," which Rodgers describes as the outcome of navigating the music scene as an up-and-coming artist, and being turned away at nightclub Studio 54’s doors shouting “aww, fuck off!” which evolved into the legendary line “freak out!”

The multi-platinum selling, 3x GRAMMY-Award winner, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Songwriters Hall of Fame Chairman and inductee also expressed excitement for refreshing “Le Freak”: “The core of my music has always been joy. Celebrating 40 years of ‘Le Freak’ and spreading joy through dance music is as strong and unifying as ever. Many of the world’s leaders have lost their minds but when we get on the dance floor we are all one and we have no differences. That’s what made ‘Le Freak’ so successful in the first place and Oliver has captured that spirit with this new remix. You will definitely want to move. I’m very proud that it’s the biggest selling song in the history of Atlantic Records but it means even more that it continues after 40 years to unite and bring happiness to so many people.”

House-hitmaker Oliver Heldens shares his enthusiasm: “I have always been a fan of disco music, and CHIC’s ‘Le Freak’ is one of my favourite disco songs. Growing up I heard it a lot because my parents loved CHIC. I really admire Nile Rodgers and he was always high on my list to work with, so it was a big honour that he asked me to remix Le Freak. I tried to keep it true to the original and had a lot of fun remixing it. I'm very happy with the result and super proud to release this remix.”

ven dillon francis edm

Platinum-selling artist, DJ, and producer Dillon Francis has shared a new music video for “Ven” (feat. Arcángel & Quimico Ultra Mega), the first single off his forthcoming Spanish language studio album. Francis premiered the clip last night during the Los40 Dance Music Awards in Mexico City, where he also performed. Directed by Michael Garcia, the clip was shot in Washington Heights, NYC and stars Francis alongside vocalists Arcángel & Quimico Ultra Mega.

Arcángel is one of the most respected artists in Latin music, a pioneer of the reggaeton movement. The Puerto Rican rapper/producer/songwriter began his career as a member of the duo Arcángel y De la Ghetto before embarking on a solo career with his debut album El Fenómeno. His latest full length Los Favoritos was released in 2015, debuting inside the top 10 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart. Quimico Ultra Mega is rapper/trap vocalist from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. His latest album Deluxe was released in 2017.

Francis’ forthcoming album was executive produced by Toy Selectah and recorded in New York City, Miami, Dominican Republic, and Mexico City. Harkening back to his 2011 breakout Westside! EP, the album sees him revisit his early Latin influences and moombahton roots. The album is due for release later this year via Francis’ own IDGAFOS record label.

IDGAFOS originated from Francis' 2011 song of the same name, which at the time, reflected the culmination of his signature musical productions. The term has since evolved into a rallying cry for all things Dillon Francis -- his clothing line, epic live show, and now an outlet with which to release his new music. In his own words, IDGAFOS is "to be spirited and happy... to never give a f*ck or sh*t about anything but remaining positive."

KRANE Unveils Highly-Anticipated Fallout LP

KRANE

Gifted electronic music producer KRANE spawns an auditory exploration into a dystopian abyss on his highly-anticipated debut album, Fallout. Through an episodic 10-track package boasting numerous stand out records including “Nobody But You,” “Next World,” “Hollow,” and “Feel It,” KRANE paints a cinematic backdrop saturated with hard-hitting yet musically sophisticated trap and anthemic future bass. Fallout is augmented by a talented collection of guests including SLUMBERJACK, QUIX and graves, amongst others.

In his own words, “Much of my personal sound and background, developed over the years of listening to and creating music, is represented in this album. It also draws widely from not only music, but also the aesthetics of movies, television and literature I love,” KRANE states. “But FALLOUT is as much a celebration of where my sound is today as it is a recognition that I will leave part of it behind now that this album is in the wild.

KRANE was enveloped in nostalgia as he prepared for his departure from the opulent electronic soundscapes he masterfully synthesized over the years. Taking inspiration from the dark frame of mind that followed, KRANE orchestrated a dystopian overture, setting the scene of an apocalyptic narrative perpetuated by the releases of singles “Monarch,” “Nobody But You,” and “Next World.” These productions soon caught on with dance music’s elite, garnering widespread support from Steve Aoki, Alison Wonderland, Diplo, RL Grime, NGHTMRE & Slander and Party Favor. Ahead of Fallout, KRANE previewed his discography on an exclusive Diplo and Friends mix on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

Since breaking onto the scene in 2015 via a TOKiMONSTA collaboration on “Put It Down,” featuring Anderson .Paak, KRANE’s innovative fusion of hip hop, jazz, and lush electronic tones has overtaken the industry. His unparalleled compositions caught on with distinguished artists such as Dillon Francis, A-Trak, Vince Staples, Bebe Rexha, Big Gigantic and Jai Wolf, tasking the Oakland-native with remixes and other productions. KRANE has since assembled numerous sample packs comprised of his signature sounds, used heavily by fellow producers, launching the rising artist into prominence. Believing in the power of community, he crafted a highly-acclaimed collaborative-imprint “SESSIONS,” where he links up with budding beatmakers to work on tracks together. As KRANE closes one door through Fallout, he looks ahead to the future, braving a new chapter of artistic rebirth.

After putting together this collection, I know I cannot repeat it, and I have to say goodbye to part of myself as a producer in pursuit of newness. But this is the welcomed aftereffect of pouring so much time and energy into this music. I know that by sharing this body of music with you, I am demolishing part of myself as a producer so I can reinvent myself again, and again."

TÂCHES Announces New EP "To Move Mountains"

taches

On stage or at a party, irrepressible bon vivant and neo-Romantic TÂCHES is impossible to miss. He’s the lanky and gregarious one flailing about in a fur coat and cowboy hat. Flaunting his penchant for the exotic and flamboyant, TÂCHES comes across less like a DJ and more like a conduit to the electric beauty in music, art, and humanity. In just five years, the melodic enigma went from giving away more than a million free downloads via word-of-mouth to releasing praised tracks on respected labels Desert Hearts, Different, CR2, Nervous, Kitsune, and Majestic Casual.

Previously using artwork featuring female friends with black bars across their eyes to avoid personal imagery in his press, as of 2016 TÂCHES–pronounced TASH–has become increasingly accessible.

This summer alone, TÂCHES is releasing a new EP, To 'Move Mountains'; launching a new label,Glitter Cowboy; performed at Burning Man for the first time and moved to manic, celebrity-soaked Los Angeles, from laid-back Spain, where he’s been spotted floating in inflatable swans in infinity pools.

Despite his relocation, the historically multicultural mecca’s influence endures. Its intoxicating rhythms and seductive melodies permeate TÂCHES’ sound and his deftly calibrated synthesis has been enthusiastically received.  His remix of Naughty Boy’s “Think About It” featuring Wiz Khalifaand Ella Eyre surpassed 1,000,000 plays on Soundcloud. His remix of Wet’s “Move Me” premiered in Vogue. Recent work with Anabel Englund on the aptly titled “Cha-Cha” and his remix of “Right Thang” with Human Movement featuring Eliot Porter further reaffirmed the in-demand DJ and producer’s status as “one to watch.”

On 'To Move Mountains' TÂCHES’ trademark unpredictability and finesse continues evolving. “I Still Think About You”, inspired by a holiday camp teen crush, is a minimal siren call from an unmappable eden. The passionate lead single “No Bailes Sola” about star-crossed lovers from warring factions meeting to secretly dance at midnight, echoes the Middle East and Latin America with hypnotic flamenco flourishes and mesmerizing percussion. Making its premiere today, TÂCHES offers out as a free stream ahead of its release "Unrequited Love Affair" featuring alluring vocals by longtime collaborator Arum Flowers and is his first downtempo song,(an ode to what he’s “loved and forgotten”).

To Move Mountains will be the first release on TÂCHES’ new label Glitter Cowboy, a home for kindred spirits. “I like to wear cowboy boots and drink beer faraway from societal responsibilities. I relish being uncomfortable and getting dusty in nature. It’s when I feel most alive” he says. Adaptability, authenticity, courage, duty, loyalty, and self-reliance are qualities he seeks to embody in the label. In keeping with his “small strokes, big impact” ethos, To Move Mountains arrives in beige packaging with fine black line art that he sourced from a Czech artist online.

Whatever TÂCHES takes on next, it will be filtered through his poignantly romantic view of the world. “The word Balearic to me, there’s a feeling of euphoria attached to it. It’s a good vibe. But at the same time, there’s always an element of melancholy. It’s a sadness attached to the transient nature of living and loving people. Emotionally, I think my music tends to sit in that melancholic field. I haven’t quite reached the level of heartbreaking emotion that I hope to convey through my music yet, but I’m getting closer.”
