Exclusive | Markus Klinko: Bowie, Beyoncé and Beyond

“I consider myself a documentarian of pop culture.” Markus Klinko

Markus Klinko, an award-winning international fashion and celebrity photographer and director, has worked with many iconic film, music, and fashion stars. He shot the cover of Beyoncé’s “Dangerously in Love,” numerous intimate and striking portraits of David Bowie, and most recently, PAPER Magazine’s cover of rap sensation Ice Spice. These stars are the focus of Klinko’s portraits that are part of “Bowie, Beyoncé and Beyond,” a traveling exhibition.

Fashionado's E. Vincent Martinez sat with Klinko, inside a Rolls Royce, for an exclusive interview with the artist about his prolific career and his current exhibition.

“These images truly represent a moment in time,” said Klinko, who performed as an international classical harp soloist and EMI Classics recording artist before taking up photography in 1994 when a hand injury ended his career. “It’s fascinating to see them transform from serving one purpose to resurfacing in other ways. Seeing stars such as Ice Spice and Billie Eilish move from the covers of magazines onto the walls of galleries within days is entirely unprecedented. I am proud to share these latest works with a fast-growing collector base.”
