A Night to Remember

lived up to its name. It was indeed an unforgettable night. As the kick off to the highly anticipated

Fashion's Night Out

, Atlanta was already buzzing with energetic fashionistas. Celebrities like the very handsome

Tyson Beckford

, hosted the event along with, R&B singer

Kenny Lattimore

and

Judy Mauldin.

Adding to the allure of the evening was a pristine 100ft red carpet which all guests got to walk on and were greeted by a swarm of flashing photography.

The VIP cocktail reception, catered by the delectable

Dennis Dean

, offered an intimate setting of fresh faces, models and good friends - a true party!

The 'design star' in the middle is celebrity designer

Michael Habachy

... this was a big evening for Michael. He designed the runway and venue interior. The runway was a 69ft elevated jewel of mirror and painted white wood.

I recently suggested that perhaps "black was the new black" in my review of the

Jeffrey Fashion Cares

runway show and now I know it is after A Night To Remember. The abundance of African-American models on the runway was amazing and refreshing. Fabulous. [ As a latino, I'd like to see more people of color grace catwalks globally.]

Reportedly, vintage pieces by

Oscar de la Renta

and

Halston

were featured in the show, though not confirmed. The models were gorgeous and the fashion très chic and that's what mattered. Of course, that's not all that mattered. There was a greater message to the evening's fashion festivities - A Night To Remember served as a tribute and homage to

Bethann Hardison

,

Willi Smith

and all who have made strides to break down racial barriers within the fashion industry.

Nationally renowned designer (and soon-to-be HGTV star of Design Wars)

Michael Habachy

will lend his considerable talent to transform the Atlantic Station venue at 231 18th Street into a luxurious space filled with celebrities and trendsetters. VIP cocktails and red carpet arrivals will begin at 7pm followed by live entertainment and a fashionable tribute — including a runway homage to the

1973

Grand Divertissement à Versailles

. Considered an historic fashion event, it was the moment when “new” American designers — Halston, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass, Anne Klein and Stephen Burrows— dominated the “established” French houses — Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Hubert de Givenchy, Emanuel Ungaro and Pierre Cardin — and Hardison brought the house down.

Fashion's Night Out (FNO)

made it's Atlanta debut last year. The fashion event's popularity has sashayed its way back to the

"fashion capitol of the South"

- as titled by Sandpiper Boutique's

Melissa Murdock

.

Atlanta Mayor

Kasim Reed

was excited to announce

FNOAtlanta's

return stating that he "plans to shop" because he "appreciates fashion."

The Office of Cultural Affairs Director,

Camille Russell Love

was thrilled to announce

A Night to Remember

on

September 6th

with

Tyson Beckford, Kenny Latimore

and

Judy Mauldin

. Additionally, HGTV Design Wars star,

Michael Habachy

will be pulling from his interior design talent to design the Atlantic Station FNOAtlanta runway to resemble the revolutionary

Grand Divertissement à Versailles

.

Jeffrey Atlanta GM,

Don Purcell

, who also co-chairs

FNOAtlanta

, enthusiastically listed all the participating retailers throughout midtown, Atlanta Station and Buckhead - well over 50 places! Last year Jeffrey Atlanta served champagne & Krispy Kreme, too fun! Before the conference started, I asked Don what he'll be serving this time around. Believe it or not, he's already thinking of something to top last year!

FASHION'S NIGHT OUT

is on

September 8th

. Mark your calendars!  A Night to Remember is two days earlier on September 6th. Also, look for "pop up" stores the week of.  A free shuttle will be available to take you all over town. I will most certainly pass along information and details.

Party Like A Rock STAR in Atlanta

So the evening starts out with a magazine party at Mason Murer Gallery. Two sparkling pink martinis later we move on to a fashion show at Luckie Lounge. The pre- show atmosphere was vibrating. The energy felt different than usual and the crowd was better than the usual. As I sat at a table to enjoy a cocktail, I spotted Tyson Beckford and Dallas Austin sitting across from me. Hot! Minutes later, the lights dimmed even lower, a spotlight appeared and the music shot up. One of the hottest and chicest fashion shows was about to start. When it ended, the crowd worked their way to an upstairs lounge with stunning city views. Meanwhile, photographers are still flashing. The night doesn’t end there. One more stop—the after party. The fashion scene moves to Prive at the W. There’s more drinking, dancing and yeah, Tyson.

Did I mention we’re in Atlanta? Oh, and it’s a week night!
