Beyond the Lace: Looks Hot Off the Lingerie Week Runway

lingerie fashion week

by guest author Michelle Rugers

Lingerie Fashion Weekended on a high note in February with a robust runway show and official closing party in New York City.

The closing show featured 36 looks from across the lingerie spectrum including designers such as Blackbird Underpinnings, Layneau Collections, Lola Haze and Clare Bare, to name a few. We saw chic models strut their stuff in the latest classy lingerie looks adorned with jewels and lace, cutouts, mottled fabrics and retro shapes.

Royal Wear

The catwalks featured looks of royal measure. Rich jewel tones were used to create body suits and separates alike giving them a royal and elegant feel. We saw ruby reds and deep golds on the NaiS models along side deep purples in the Affinitas Intimates collection.

Retro Chic

An homage to the days of high waists and modest coverings, this look focuses on crochet-inspired prints and embroidery detailing. From high-waist bottoms and suspenders featured on the NaiS runway to full-body suits by Lola Haze this look entices while leaving a bit more to the imagination.

Classically Comfortable

Comfort and fashion do not have to be polar opposites. In fact, BlackBird Underpinnings featured elegant looks of silk camisole and short sets with thigh high stockings that are a far cry from the dated silk looks of the past. Neveah Intimates also featured some lounge-worthy looks that tie, plunge and accent in all the right places to be casually pretty.

Bold and Beautiful

Goodbye frills and subtlety, hello straps, cutouts and bold prints. Some daring looks made their way down the runways this season but not in the same fashion we're used to. It was less about leather and bondage, more about daring and selectively showing. For example, FYI by Dani Reed showcased some gorgeous numbers with pretty pink fabric accented by bold, black straps to combine femininity and sex appeal. Likewise, Neveah used low, plunging necklines and garter belts to create illusions and flashes of skin amid exotic prints.

Gracious with Lace

Lace has long been a staple in lingerie wear and is not likely to leave the scene anytime soon. What we do see, however, are the different incantations of lace in various lingerie looks. This year we were presented with a variety of pattern and lace combinations including a variety of animal prints as well as looks of head-to-toe lace.

Bumped Up

We even saw some moms-to-be strutting their stuff down the runway in bump accentuating attire by You! Lingerie. The designer celebrated the pregnant body with bold color choices, black lace and cleavage-popping tops.

Instagram repost from Caren West PR

If Monday is this glamorous for Jeffrey McQuithy, Louise Sams and Lila Hertz, I can only imagine what the rest of the week will bring! For real... who starts the week off in black tie? [Jeffrey in Etro, Louise is wearing Simone Rocha and Lila in Dior.] Well actually, there is a fabulous cause behind the couture:

Jeffrey Fashion Cares 2014!

YES darlings, can you believe we're already talking JFC?!! The first planning meeting is coming up very soon and I'll be sure to bring you ALL the scoop I possibly can from the committee. BUT for now, we can swoon over this absolutely exquisite,

behind-the-scenes

photo of the Co-Chairs taken by JFC pr maven Caren West. I will speculate that if the "styling" of the shoot is any indication of what to expect from this year's event, all I've got to say is O-EM-GEE!

*The 22nd Annual Jeffrey Fashion Cares is on August 25th, save-the-date!

Comme Des Garçons Fall 2014

"The theme of the collection this time is MONSTER. It's not about the typical Monster you find in sci-fi and video games. The expression of the Monsters I have made has a much deeper meaning. The craziness of humanity, the fear we all have, the feeling of going beyond common sense, the absence of ordinariness, expressed by something extremely big, by something that could be ugly or beautiful. In other words, I wanted to question the established standards of beauty." Rei Kawakubo, Comme des Garçons.

I am seriously obsessing! Rei Kawakubo gave us living, breathing human art disguised as fashion.

What is beauty anyway? And does it have to be functional or wearable? View Collection:

CHANEL on Aisle 5 Fall 2014

Chanel Supermarket
Chanel Supermarket

Paper, plastic or Chanel? The legendary fashion house turned "supermarket" for a day made Whole Foods look like a Piggly Wiggly. But of course, when your groceries come from the

Grand Palais everything else pales by comparison. Classic tweeds, shimmering metallics, knits, track suits and plenty of bright colors made Chanel Fall 2014 irresistible. Oh and Rihanna carted around by Joan Smalls was pretty fierce too! I just love this. What a creative and FUN way to keep current, young and relevant. When I say that Uncle Karl is a genius, I actually mean it. View Collection, you know, it's right there next to the produce section, but fresher:

GUCCI Presents: SS14 Campaign

Gucci

calls their Spring / Summer campaign film an "

intriguing game of unexpected moves." I call it good editing and beautiful clothing. I especially love the floral menswear.

Beckham Rides Belstaff

Whether he's in H&M undies or in moto-gear from Belstaff, I'll take David Beckham any way you wanna serve him! Here, he's pictured with his "band of brothers" [and a sister looks like] in an ad campaign for Belstaff. It seemed natural for Beckham, a lover of motorbiking, to design his own collection for the British luxury brand. Beckham's Belstaff collection will be available at Belstaff.com this March.

"Every Dress Worn by Best Actress Academy Award Winners" 1929 - Present (2014)

Every Dress Worn by Best Actress Academy Award Winners

Now this is a chart I can read! Wow, excellent. Thanks Cosmopolitan UK...This fabulous  infographic by mediarundigital.co.u shows every dress worn by the winning Oscar best actress since 1929. The two things I learned from looking at it: 1.) Designer gowns didn't get popular until the 90's; 2.) there have been some really ugly dresses worn. 1978 -1984 will give me fashion nightmares.

The Academy Awards are Sunday. Bring on the red carpet!
