CHANEL Cruise Collection sets sail to CUBA

From Chanel Airlines to Coco Cuba, Karl Lagerfeld has proven to be the master of destination resort locations. This week, the much talked about Chanel Cruise Cuba collection set sail to Cuba and gave Havana the most dynamic fashion party it's seen in more than fifty years.

Karl Lagerfeld captured the spirit, energy and vibe of the Cuban people with a Chanel resort collection that showcased the perfect balance between wearability and luxury. Alongside Chanel's signature tweed in bright color, festive prints, some appropriately featuring a classic-car motif, marched down the grand Paseo del Prado in Old Havana. Tropical looks and classic black and white frocks and suits made their way through the collection reminiscent  of a time when Cuba was glamorous.

Hats - fedoras and berets were well featured in the show. Cubans love hats. Even my eighty-two year old dad has a collection! The only issue I have is with VogueRunway.com who referenced the correlation between the beret and murderer Che Guevara. VR - don't glamorize him please.

Karl Lagerfeld took the finale walk wearing a purple sequin Saint Laurent jacket.

MET GALA Red Carpet Fashion 2016

Best-dressed, no question about it, goes to Claire Danes wearing Zac Posen. We have to really hand it to Zac Posen whose concept truly embodied the Met Gala's theme: "Manas X Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology." Claire Danes was reminiscent of the elegant, old Hollywood glamour of the past but the dress gave a nod to the future by lighting up, transforming the look into something wondrous and fantastical, like a Disney Cinderella.

The Balmain Army was well represented with Kim, Kanye, Kylie and with one of the original supermodels, Cindy Crawford, who flawlessly wore Balmain on her back and Olivier Rousteing on her arm.

The Queen, Anna Wintour, arrived in a stunning Chanel; not a hair out of place.

Lady Gaga rocked it out in 10" heels and Madonna show it out, revealing her buttocks. [Not pretty.]

Silver and white were the colors du jour. Most celebs had fun with the theme and played with their version of it. Many interpreted 'fashion in an age of technology' through textile. Like Beyonce in latex.

The Met Gala proved it really is the "Oscars of Fashion."

Chanel cruises to Havana: Coco Cuba

chanel in havana cuba

Chanel will be presenting their cruise collection in Havana, Cuba on May 3rd. "Coco Cuba" is the invitation for the show. When I first heard of the news last Fall, my first inclination was to attend and now I'm kind of upset I'm not there! Some of the reports I've read say that Chanel will cruise down El Paseo del Prado in Havana. [If accurate] that is the perfect place for a runway show. El Paseo del Prado is an wide, long terrazzo walkway elegantly canopied by trees. It runs for many blocks.

Gloria and Emilio Estefan supports Karl Lagerfeld showing Chanel in Cuba she told The Cut: “Listen, it doesn’t matter, it’s there, the image is there, they’re seeing beautiful clothes, they’re seeing fashion,” Gloria said. “And by the way, Cuba was huge in the fashion world. In Cuba B.C. — before Castro — the fashion would come out in Paris, and it would be in Cuba the same day. And it was a very, very elegant country; people dressed to the nines there. If you look at the fashions of Cuba in the '30s, '40s’, '50s, it was always cutting edge of fashion. So one day again it shall be. Right now, they’re just trying to find something that they can wear, and it’s tough.”

I couldn't agree more with the Estefans.

I've read comments like, the Cuban people can't afford Chanel... why are they showing in Cuba, etc, etc... My response to that: How many of us can afford New York Fashion Week? Or Paris Fashion Week; or London, Milan... you get the point... Bring it Karl!

I'll post Chanel Cruise photos as soon as possible.

Culture of Fashion: THE FACE MAGAZINE

Charlotte one-upped Atlanta with a fashion party New York would've been proud of... [not that it's a competition] but The Face Magazine issue release party had that NYFW vibe that separated and elevated it from most of the events I attend. The Face is the culture of fashion.

Wine, catering and non-stop fashion presentations flowed through the brick-walled, concrete-floored LaCa Projects space. LaCa Projects - Latin American of Contemporary Art - featured luxury fashion presentations by Jon Millner, Brandan M. Combs, Sanstitre, Sloan Boutique and Luna's By The Lake. Guest snapped away on social media but also got a chance to speak with the designers.

The energy and feel of the evening was nothing less than spectacular. The well-attended event, stayed that way up to the end - a clear sign of its success.

As for The Face... this is what magazine's should look like. Less ads, more content with pages and pages of beautiful editorials. Take a look.

Met Gala: “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”

taylor swift co-chairs met gala

Anyone else thinking about the Met Gala?!

On Monday, May 2nd, the fashion world's biggest designers will gather to a celebrity packed house for the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, more commonly known as the Met Gala - though there is nothing common about it.

The star-studded event, labeled as the Oscars of Fashion by Andre Leon Tally, will deliver a red carpet like no other. Who'll be the most creative, who will play it safe and which celebs will be show-stoppers?

This year's theme is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” and the Costume Institute exhibition will feature more than 100 haute couture and ready-to-wear pieces.

Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute had this to say about the exhibit to Vogue: “Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made... But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other.”

This exclusive fashion party has a guest list of about 600 A-listers and quite the impressive chairing committee to include Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Jonathan Ive and Anna WintourNicolas Ghesquière, Karl Lagerfeld, and Miuccia Prada will serve as honorary chairs.
