Études x The New York Times

The many histories of a city are documented within all its existent details—the animate, as well as the inanimate—yet, it’s the press that forever immortalizes a city’s biography. Here, our stories are still the stories of everyone; archived and remembered, and forever surviving.

With this season’s arrival, Études is excited to announce their newest collaboration featuring the renowned New York Times logo, centralizing around the general theme of history versus daily information.

Since 1851, the US news organization has influenced and shaped minds beyond its own audience. Throughout this special project, Études appropriates The Times’s logo that in the past centuries and decades has become one of the most recognized symbols.

By translating the news organization’s image onto Études’ new collection— with the inclusion of shirts, caps, scarves, jackets—the continual existence of stories is physically recalled into the everyday, making us remember that our generations are also there to be echoed in those to come.

This collaboration is composed of:

Their windows are famous. I, like many, many others who walk past them, well, just can't walk past them without snapping a picture. My most recent NYC trip was no exception, so here they are! Bergdorf Goodman windows:

Pretty Young Things

Heaven is no longer missing an Angel and has gained a King. She inspired a generation to flip it while he showed over 30,500,000 people (and rising, rapidly, per YouTube) how to beat it. June 25th, 2009 was a sad day as the world lost two iconic American figures, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. I am paying tribute to the remarkable contributions they made to fashion and pop culture—from the red, one-piece swimsuit to the legendary red jacket, their style influenced millions and set trends.

I was a Farrah fan from day one when she starred in the role of Jill Munroe on Charlie’s Angels. She was on the show for only the first season, but returned six times over the third and forth seasons. Another fascination I had with Farrah was that she was married to one of my heroes at the time, Lee Majors, the Six Million Dollar Man. The marriage ended in 1982. That same year, Farrah and actor Ryan O’Neal began their relationship.

I asked another blond beauty, Atlanta’s own Corinna Allen, Lifestyle and Entertainment reporter for Better Mornings Atlanta, to share with us her thoughts on Farrah Fawcett.

Corinna on Farrah: “Farrah was the girl next door who achieved iconic status as a 70’s Beach Beauty. But even more remarkably, she survived it. Unlike James Dean and Marilyn Monroe, who died at their respective peaks, Farrah lived beyond the era she came to represent. And while we'll never forget her feathered hair and bathing suit, it's her All American style that we'll remember.”

The untimely death of Michael Jackson sent shock waves throughout the world. Like so many millions of fans who have wonderful and nostalgic memories of the King of Pop, I too have some of my own. I probably share many of the same as his fans do, so I will point one out that is off the beaten path. It comes via Madonna! The year was 1985. The concert was the Like a Virgin tour. Half way through the song, Like a Virgin, Madonna breaks into Billie Jean—flawless! It was a testament, at the time, of MJ’s influential power, and now, nearly 30 years later, I am still thinking about it.

(Madonna breaks into "Beat It" at 2:37 into the song.)

Atlanta based Fashion Designer, Mychael Knight, shares his feelings about the profound impact the King of Pop had on society.

Mychael on Michael: “No one has ever single-handedly influenced a country, a people, a generation, the WORLD as MJ has! From music to dance to fashion to politics, Michael Jackson has left a forever standing imprint in them all. He will be missed. I will miss him.”
