REOPENING OF THE KENZO GEORGE V STORE PARIS

kenzo paris fashionado

KENZO IS HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THE REDEVELOPMENT OF ONE OF ITS KEY PARISIAN ADDRESSES AND AN EXCITING NEW ADVENTURE FOR PARIS’ ‘GOLDEN TRIANGLE’ DISTRICT.

The French fashion house, under Creative Directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, have re-opened its 446m² store on avenue George V. The updated store concept reflects KENZO’s ongoing modern approach to fashion.

The American duo, Creative Directors since 2011, previously worked with celebrated architect Fabrizio Casiraghi to imagine a new retail concept when opening the brand’s Marais store. Casiraghi conceived a beautiful showcase to present KENZO’s seasonal Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer collections as well as its “La Collection Memento” line and their accessories. The concept continued with the opening of KENZO’s store on Boulevard de la Madeleine and now on avenue George V.

For the George V store, the concept has been developed to create a cohesive two-floor space dedicated to KENZO’s multifaceted approach to lifestyle. A delicate balance between pop and residential themes, the store’s energy is an effort in contrasts. Color palettes of aqua or yellow, combine to frame the houses garments and accessories. Large wooden lacquered pillars divide the sections, and marbleized linoleum or wood flooring permeate the space.

Alice + Olivia signature patterns, sequins and overall glam prevailed. A ball skirt with an image of the Eiffel Tower reigned supreme - it was exquisite. The collection is vibrant in every sense of the word and is comprised of must-have separates - from palazzo pants, bomber jackets, blazers and full skirts - there is something for everyone. There (as usual) was an abundance of florals and intricate pattern, on almost everything, to keep the A+O girl happy.

Bibhu Mohaptra (on the right) with his team: (l) David Valencia - Designer,  Cher Du -Production Manager, and Jameela Lake - Public Relations Director.

The BIBHU MOHAPATRA Spring Summer 2018 collection draws inspiration from art and life in traditional Eastern Asia. Reflecting on the mysterious female samurai, the collection strikes a balance between seduction and strength – a power dynamic interpreted in geometric silhouettes and artful, embellished fabrics. Mohapatra showcased his Spring Summer 2018 collection at New York Fashion Week at Skylight Clarkson Square to a packed house.

“The role of the female samurai has, historically, been a battle of its own. She is always the exception and never the rule. Each piece has been designed to echo her extraordinary uniqueness through masterpieces of Japanese lace, sunburst pleated tulle, and silk mikado. There is war in art and there is art in war – this collection captures the vibrancy of it all,” explains Mohapatra.

Rooted in conflict, the SS18 collection’s resolution is a synergistic mix of couture ready-to-wear and evening gowns. Highlights include necklines and drapework reminiscent of formal kimonos, geometrically inclined beadwork, and knotting inspired by Japanese Shibari – the artistic practice of bondage.

Mohapatra also collaborated with Christian Louboutin to customize two styles of shoes from the French luxury brand’s SS18 collection. Nosy, a pointy-toe pump, and Nosy Flat, a pointy-toe flat style combine two contrasting colors of leather with transparent PVC and floral lace accents. These sleek, ultra-feminine styles both reveal and conceal the foot, echoing the duality inherent to Mohapatra’s collection.

For embellishments, Mohapatra collaborated with PreciosaGroup on fine crystals. “Preciosa is the perfect collaborator for us as we built this collection. Their product stands for incredible quality, refinement and modernity which enables me to take my collection from concept to realization,” said Mohapatra.

Explicitly designed from head to toe, the BIBHU MOHAPATRA SS18 collection introduced the image of a self-actualized warrior.

PORTS 1961 Womenswear Pre Spring 2018

PORTS 1961 Womenswear Pre Spring 2018

Travel - literally, and metaphorically - is the inspiration for the pre-spring Ports 1961 collection.

1961 - the year Ports was founded - marked the start of the true jet-set, of travel as a leisure pass-time, a pleasure rather than an arduous necessity. Today, Ports 1961 Creative Director Nataša Čagalj and her design team draw influence from the idea of wanderlust, of travel as a journey not only between different locations, but different experiences, fresh inspirations, and new horizons. The enjoyment of travel is translated to an enjoyment in dressing.

Rather than a specific destination, there’s a sense of exploration, of a journey in progress - packing and unpacking, a dynamic and spontaneous mix of clothing. Inspired by far-flung cultures, styles are juxtaposed and fused in an arresting bricolage. Fashion without borders.

Stretch British-style tweeds combine with Madras checks and Hispanic stripes, fair isle knits and matelot stripes, reflect an aesthetic restlessness. Shapes are straightforward, graphic and utilitarian - easy trench coats, wide trousers, aloha shirts. They allow the pattern to speak. Colours reflect rich Caribbean shades, but sunbleached to gentle pastel hues of powder pink, cornflower and lettuce. Shoes are crissed with woven raffia and set atop Cuban heels, ready for another journey.

The thread running through everything is humour. An unpredictability in the blending of styles and cultures, a wit in their new expression in an expansive vacation wardrobe. The woman who travels with everything, but the kitchen sink.
