Off-White FALL 2022

Off-White FALL 2022

Off-White Fall 2022: Virgil Abloh was fashion’s most frequent flyer, a multi-hyphenate creative director, DJ, architect, serial collaborator, and amplifier for the voices of the Black community. The man was not earthbound. So it makes a sort of sense that since his sudden passing last November we’ve been visited by a drone kite and runway angels.

Designer Virgil Abloh announced today that he has raised $1 million to benefit scholarships for Black students through the Virgil Abloh™️ "Post-Modern" Scholarship Fund, which will be managed in partnership with the Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF), the foremost fashion-oriented education and workforce development nonprofit in the U.S.  Quotes from Virgil Abloh and Peter Arnold, FSF's Executive Director, are available below.

The Abloh Fund's mission is to foster equity and inclusion within the fashion industry by providing scholarships to students of academic promise of Black, African-American, or African descent. Mr. Abloh named the fund "Post Modern" to represent that recipients will not only receive funds, but will also be given access to vital career support services and mentoring. In addition to his own donation, Abloh raised funds from his partners evian, Farfetch, Louis Vuitton, and New Guards Group, with more partners to be announced in the future as the Fund continues to work for long-term change.

In connection with the launch of the Fund, Mr. Abloh has entered into a long-term partnership with FSF to help enhance their internship, mentorship, and networking offerings.

Peter Arnold, FSF Executive Director, said: “At the heart of the FSF’s mission is elevating the voices and creative visions of talented youth from underrepresented backgrounds who are the future leaders of our industry. Virgil is a trailblazer and a game-changer, leveraging his considerable influence to effect change from within. We are grateful to have this opportunity to partner with him and his partners to impact the lives of so many deserving young people."

Off-White FW20 Menswear

FW20 Menswear OFFWHITE_SHOW

For his Fall/Winter 2020 menswear collection, titled “Tornado Warning,” Virgil Abloh significantly deepens— and anchors—Off-White’s established identity.

Abloh’s sensibilities continue to pull away from the term “streetwear,” but he is not discarding his hand of in-the-know familiarity. In this lineup, the designer pushes the idea wheel forward, layering in singular silhouettes, innovative suiting, and dressier formal and outerwear.

Off-White FW20 Womenswear

For his FW 2020 womenswear collection, Virgil Abloh further develops Off-White’s codes with a sense of contemporary realism, beyond the hems of the fashion industry. He looks at the world at large.

To set the pace, Abloh ventured back to the nineties—a definitive sartorial era—by compiling references from then-ubiquitous minimal slip-dresses and bra tops to Hype Williams’s 1998 directorial film debut, Belly. Williams is widely known for his innovative and Zeitgeist-capturing music videos, which blend technology, fashion, and uncompromising individuality; in Belly, keystone late nineties-era hallmarks like red leather Ecko puffers and original-design all-white Range Rovers take centerstage. The view towards a more recent nostalgia hints at a collective comfort regarding what has passed—especially when the future feels so unpredictable.

From there, Abloh used the nineties as a springboard for helping to define what OffWhite will be in the 2020’s. His approach is one of calculated miscellany, mirroring the moment and pushing that moment forward.

Bookending his Fall runway were hybridized, high-volume dresses with Arc’teryx parkas. Myriad trenches came paired with trousers, which were generally long and lean, with breaks at the ankle. Holstein blot motifs walked alongside circular cutout separates; heavy chain elements were worked in as jewelry or dress adornments. Extra-tailored leather blazers featured spray-painted overlays. Houndstooth patterns morphed into psychedelic pools on top-coats and skirts. An angular tulle wing-and-half-dress was worn over camouflage cargo pants. A collaboration with MGM studios led to a Blue Velvet-inspired capsule: a structured, off-the-shoulder dress in the fabric the movie is named for, along with mirror-ball metallic garments that channel Dorothy Vallens’s glitzier ensembles.

Akin to what’s happening in culture greater, we are now living in an era of openness, constant newness, hyper-information, and the pressing need for adaptability: “Reality,” says Abloh, “is the starting point of my type of storytelling.”

Staples Edition by Louis Vuitton Offers Accessible, Minimalist Wardrobe Essentials

LV-Staples-Edition

Virgil Abloh‘s conceptual Louis Vuitton collections have impressed critics and fans alike, though one could argue that they don’t cater to the average consumer; not everyone can wear harnesses and billowing cargo pants as part of a day-to-day wardrobe. Enter Staples Edition by Louis Vuitton.

The concise array of menswear pieces caters to those seeking premium essentials to round out their wardrobes. The goods themselves take the form of recognizable silhouettes, ranging from hoodies and denim jackets to tailored blazers and puffers, but feature subtle tweaks and lavish construction that befits Louis Vuittons luxury reputation.

Fabrication is key to the collection, with top-shelf textiles sourced for each item. Consider the buttery leather gloves, hat and backpack or the beige cashmere hoodie and coat, all replete with subtle details that include carabiner attachments, leather straps and LV-branded buttons. Similarly, the cotton for the denim jacket and jeans is sturdy, yet soft thanks to a special wash, with gold buckles and branded buttons reinforcing the luxurious motif.

A complete collection of items will launch in the debut Staples Edition by Louis Vuitton range, including field, track and leather jackets, a raincoat, polo and tonal utility shirts, flared trousers, cargo pants, cotton chinos and shorts. Classic LV bags, like the Keep-All and Tote, receive a thematic makeover that blends recognizable logos with utilitarian ease. Naturally, the range is rounded out by plentiful accessories, including sunglasses, bracelets, necklaces, a low-top sneaker, work boot and derby.

Staples Edition by Louis Vuitton is currently available for pre-order in select Louis Vuitton stores and will be launched in the house’s global outposts on May 3
