adidas Tennis Collection by Pharrell Williams

adidas Tennis unveiled the US Open 2017 outfits of the leading names in tennis, who will debut the adidas Tennis Collection by Pharrell Williams at Flushing Meadows. Angelique Kerber and Dominic Thiem will lead the inline campaign, showcasing the collection on court. Other players to wear the collection at the US Open include, Simona Halep, Jelena Ostapenko, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Tomáš Berdych.

Inspired by the sport’s ’70s-era superstars - their fearless attitudes and their bold senses of personal style - Pharrell developed a simple brief: remix their most iconic looks into a new tennis collection informed by the latest breakthroughs in adidas technology, such as adidas ClimaCool.

The result is adidas Tennis Collection by Pharrell Williams, a range of clothing, accessories, and footwear that brings a cool, colorful, and sophisticated spirit to the world of tennis apparel. The collection explores two distinct motifs - primary colour-block and off-white pin stripe. These elements are paired with fully-fashioned, engineered knitwear that boasts surprising details. The inline collection is in addition to the statement collection by adidas Originals, which will be worn on court by Garbine Muguruza and Sascha Zverev.

Defending champion Angelique Kerber will wear the inline New York Color Blocked Dress, which features a warp knit mesh body fabric with color blocked panels at the side. The 3-in-1 dress comes with Climacool to battle the heat and quick drying fabrics to keep cool and dry. Simona Halep, finalist at Roland Garros, will wear the New York tank featuring a flat knit ribbed collar design with with multi color stripes and four button placket. Alongside the New York skort that has a pleated design, matching the overall vintage tennis aesthetic.

Angelique Kerber, commented, “The US Open is such an exciting tournament for me. Last year I not only won the tournament for the first time, but also won the WTA World Number 1 ranking – reaching an achievement that I have dreamed of since I started playing tennis. To come back and play in a dress from such an exciting collection and collaboration is really special and I can’t wait to show my love for the city of New York on the court”.

Jo- Wilfried Tsonga and Tomáš Berdych will wear the New York Color Blocked Polo with flat knit ribbed collar and cuffs. Dominic Thiem will wear the New York Tee with a contrast color ribbed neckline. All will wear the New York Colorblock Short, featuring a multicolored elasticated waist band and stretch woven fabric with yarn dyed pinstripes.

addias Tennis’ footwear franchises also feature in the collection and will be worn on court. In a new Pharrell Williams colorway, the Ubersonic 3 women’s shoe boasts an innovative sock style ankle support, providing stability between points during fast paced play; a new approach to tennis footwear. The iconic men’s Barricade will also be available in a new colorway for the collection, with state-of-the-art design and craftsmanship the Barricade is the most stable and durable on the court.

What makes a Superstar? Ask Pharrell & David Beckham...

pharrell williams adidas

Pharrell Williams, David Beckham, Rita Ora and Damien Lilliard star in a video ad for Adidas featuring the Original Superstar sneaker that first came out in 1969. It's a super cool, super sleek and super stylized short film where these "superstars" question the meaning of super stardom. Hmmm... I'm a little skeptical of the integrity of all this. Watch for yourself and form your own opinion. At the very least, the video is entertaining and hello, David Beckham's in it!

An Electrifying Project Runway All Stars

austin-scarlett-project-runway-all-stars-vincent-martinez-fashionado

The

Project Runway All Stars

lit up the runway, literally, in last week's exciting episode. The techno-chic challenge was All Star-worthy. The designers bypassed Mood and headed directly to a specialty lighting store for their supplies which consisted of LED lights and neon tape. THEN they headed over to Mood to look for fabrics that would work well under black light. Rapper/Singer

Pharrell Williams

was the guest judge for the evening. The winning design, which was clearly

his

choice regardless of the judges (professional) opinion, will be worn by one of Pharrell's artists.

Mondo

was safe. I know he could have done much better than this design even though the overall styling worked - obviously, one of his strengths. He always thinks of the entire look as any good designer should. I've been a Team Mondo member from his original season on PR and I continue to be... I'm eager to see what he brings to the next few episodes.

Ninja couture by

Michael Costello

. He was in the bottom two for this one but had enough fighting moves to stay in the competition. I liked Michael's look. It reminded me of

Alexander McQueen's

2005 chess board collection. The problem with Michael was that he was all over the place and could not decide on a design. His execution, specifically with the neon tape application, was slightly sloppy.

Maybe not so slightly!

I'll give him props for not draping.

Pharrell, I'm trying to respect your choice, after all,

you

know (not us) who'll be wearing the winning design, but you're a dick and you cost

Kenley

the win.

Real

fashion designers,

Isaac Mizrahi

and

Georgina Chapman

praised the design and gave expert reasons why Kenley's was the best. Georgina even pointed how successfully the balance of proportion and volume weighed out with this look. But it was clear, at the end, that the best design didn't qualify, it was only Pharrell's choice that mattered.

jerell-scott-project-runway-all-stars-recap-fashionado

At the request of Georgina Chapman,

Jerell

raised the long, unflattering black skirt to expose the model's black-hosed legs. He possibly may have stayed in the competition if he had nixed the skirt. What a huge difference not having it made to the entire look. Too bad Jerell and goodbye.

Cry baby,

Austin Scarlett

won the challenge and could have also won an Academy Award for his "tearful" breakdown when Pharrell called him a "star." His high-tech, futuristic Marie Antoinette -esque design was good. I liked it. I just didn't love it.

The best part

: in the

After the Runway

segment, Isaac Mizrahi didn't hold back in telling Austin that Kenley should have won the challenge!

Pet peeve -side note:

Project Runway, Project Runway All Stars, Lifetime TV & Producers, EVERYONE knows that

Heidi Klum

coined the phrase: "As you know

in fashion

one day you

'

re in

. And the next day, you're out." Its hers, WE get it! Why must you force poor

Angela Lindvall

to preface it with "as you know" or "as its been said"... stop it!!
