Jeffrey Fashion Cares Atlanta is set to celebrate 26 stylish years on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 7 p.m. 

Considered the official kick-off to the fall social season, the annual philanthropic fête founded by acclaimed retailer and arbiter of style, Jeffrey Kalinsky, will return to Phipps Plaza for an unforgettable evening that kicks off with a cocktail reception and dynamic silent auction followed by a high-energy live auction.  

The evening's pièce de résistance, a runway show featuring Kalinsky's style selections from high-end designers, once again promises to dazzle with looks from Celine, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Calvin Klein, Dries Van Noten, Sacai, Saint Laurent Paris, Balenciaga, Christian Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik.  

The 2018 event will benefit Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta, the Atlanta AIDS Fund (AAF), and the Medical University of South Carolina.

Recap: Global Runway Fashion Presentation and Pop-up Experience hosted by InStyle Magazine Editor Kahlana Barfield

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) presented Global Runway 2018, a fashion presentation and retail pop-up experience on Wednesday, May 16. Hosted by InStyle Magazine’s Editor Kahlana Barfield, over 250 guests experienced a few of the retail offerings that represent ATL Skypointe, a program designed for guests to shop, dine and explore ATL. This year, guests also experienced an expanded industry-driven fashion experience, which included a silent auction to benefit Bert’s Big Adventure. Kennedy Morgan, founder of Love to the Moon and Bert’s Big Adventure special guest also experienced a full day of fashion which included hair, makeup, and styling by Global Runway's glam team. Kennedy also showcased her modeling skills in this year’s fashion presentation.

In its second year, Global Runway featured four U.S. retail brands: SpanxExOfficioBrooks Brothers and Sean John, which is celebrating their 20th anniversary. Also bridging the gap between beauty and style, the event highlighted national brands MAC CosmeticsMichael KorsBijoux Terner and XpresSpa via a pop-up shop.

“Each year, ATL serves over 103 million passengers, and many of them are unaware of our award-winning concessions program,” said Airport Concessions Marketing Manager Pamela Simmons. “In addition to being a global transportation hub, ATL is also a hub for quality global brands and Global Runway is designed to showcase these brands and raise the awareness of all that the world’s busiest airport has to offer.”

For a second year in a row, Global Runway presented by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport  will bring together six social media influencers who are known for their style and presence in the global fashion community. This year, ATL has selected InStyle Magazine Editor-At-Large and Influencer Kahlana Barfield as their 2018 event host. Along with Barfield, influencers Shahad Alqaysi, Satchel Jester, Kara Chin, Jessica Camerata and Cari Root will join her on stage to reveal the newest styles offered at ATL.

This year, fashion presentation brands include Sean John, celebrating their 20th anniversary, Spanx, travel apparel ExOfficio and American brand Brook’s Brothers. Global Runway will also bridge the gap between beauty and style by hosting retail pop-ups featuring national brands Benefit Cosmetics, Michael Kors, ExOfficio, Bijoux Terner and Xpress Spa.

ARMANI EXCHANGE CELEBRATES ITS “NEW ENERGY, SAME SPIRIT” LAUNCH EVENT WITH MARTIN GARRIX IN ANTWERP

A|X Armani Exchange celebrated its ‘New Energy, Same Spirit’ event with a special performance by Martin Garrix, the brand’s testimonial, at A|X Armani Exchange Antwerp Store.

The 524 square meter store - previously under the Armani Jeans label as a consequence of the reorganization of the brand portfolio of the Armani Group announced in July 2017 - features the new concept for the relaunch of the brand A|X. Raw steel, aged wood, industrial planks and concrete walls create a space that makes a strong material and sensorial impact and evoke the industrial interior of a young and dynamic New York.

The event was attended by Antwerp’s social, fashion and music scene.

During this occasion, A|X Armani Exchange renews the #st_ART project, an initiative focused on the metropolitan and artistic vocation of A|X Armani Exchange. The project offers a small selection of t-shirt, glasses and watches created by seven international artists from the world of graphic design and visual arts. 

The event marks a fundamental step in the re-launch of A|X, which continues its expansion plan having been wholly reacquired by the Armani Group in 2014, part of its strategy to reorganise its brand portfolio. This repositioning allows the brand to re-establish itself as the ambassador of the new Italian streetwear.

Designer Spotlight Interview with Michael Howard of Smock Me

Style Fashion Week visited the West Hollywood studio of emerging designer, Michael Howard—the creative mind behind Smock Me. See below for sneak-peaks of the collection and a full interview with Michael about his beginnings as a designer and insights on his career as he continues to build his vision.

Entering the studio, we were immediately greeted by Michael's mischievous pig, Mr. Meat, who has become the inspiration behind of some of Smock Me's upcoming designs. Mr. Meat, the SmockMe pig, has a wardrobe of his own and changes his hair color frequently—check out his Instagram @mr.meat_ He definitely takes after his father. 

As we talked, I sifted through the many unique designs draped amongst the racks, when one particular jacket caught my eye. The back read, “Fear is Fuel for the Soul.”  He walked me outside of his studio to reveal the mantra painted on the wall as well.  “I came here with nothing but my backpack.” He explained. 

It was eight years ago, after losing both of his parents, that he decided that it was time to immerse himself in a new environment. He packed his backpack, and left for Los Angeles without a plan. He explained how the fear of the unknown propelled him forward on his journey. Without a place to stay, he ran into a friend on his first day in town, who gave him a temporary home as he established himself in his new surroundings. He experimented in acting, but when it failed to inspire him, he began working and designing for a shop on Melrose. He additionally began teaching himself to sew.

Growing up in the Brooklyn 90’s, Michael has always found inspiration in brands like Iceberg and Coogi. He also finds inspiration in vintage cartoons like Rocco’s Modern Life, CatDog and others that bring his audience feelings childhood nostalgia. Fashion and the expression of dress was always something he admired—specifically, unique pieces that couldn’t be replicated. He was never interested in fashion that felt like something “everyone else was wearing.” 

It was three years ago when he designed his first piece. The garment was a second hand jean jacket, which he distressed and customized by attaching some 1930’s Pop-Eye characters from his collection. He placed the jacket in the Melrose storefront where he was working. When almost immediately, a customer recognized the value and uniqueness of the garment, Michael knew he was onto something. He began designing more distinct pieces for himself and his friends, and when they continued to receive a tremendous amount of attention when wearing the garments, Smock Me was born. 

Michael takes pride in the originality of each garment. Each piece is a reflection of the emotion and inspiration that was flowing within him on the moment of creation. While these core pieces can never be replicated, he has begun to incorporate graphic design into his collections. He intends for the Smock Me graphic collection to be similar in exclusivity to his core designs—once released, there will be only a limited amount of each graphic collection available. His first graphic collection will debut during Style Fashion Week Palm Springs. 

On April 6th at the Palm Springs Air Museum, guests can look forward to a collection launch which will include Smock Me core, graphic, swim and accessories. Smock Me presented his first collective during New York Fashion Week this past February. This will be his first time showing with Style Fashion Week. 

Michael continues to let the unknown guide him in all of his endeavors, creating each moment with the stroke of his brush and letting his intuition lead the way. We look forward to his collection debut at Style Fashion Week, Palm Springs.

Celebrating sustainable style with Red Carpet Green Dress

Suzy Amis Cameron, founder of the ethical fashion initiative Red Carpet Green Dress (RCGD), was honored by MAISON-DE-MODE.COM at the first annual gala at the “Celebrate Sustainable Style” event held at The Sunset Tower. Many celebrities and industry executives came out to support Amis Cameron including her husband director James Cameron, Amanda Hearst, Hassan Pierre, Elon Musk, Maye Musk, Paris Hilton & Chris Zylka, Angela Bassett, Nadja Swarovski, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Zac Posen, Lydia Hearst & Chris Hardwick, Madelaine Petsch, Nathan Jendens, Ginta Lapina, Kathy Hilton, Rick Hilton, Anne Hearst McInerney, Priyanka Bose, and many more.
 
During the two hour event, one-of-a-kind sustainable gowns were created by top designers Vivienne Westwood, Mary Katrantzou & Diane von Furstenberg, and were worn by critically acclaimed actresses Rosario Dawson, Angela Bassett and Madelaine Petsch. The ethical dresses are now available for purchase on MAISON-DE-MODE.COM, where a percentage of profits will be donated to the beneficiary of RCGD, MUSE School CA. MUSE School CA is an environmental non-profit educational organization Amis Cameron founded in Calabasas, Calif. with her sister Rebecca Amis.

Descriptions of each gown worn:

  • Madelaine Petsch is wearing a custom Mary Katrantzou dress made with sustainable silk satin and embroidered with Swarovski upcycled crystals 
  • Angela Bassett is wearing a custom Diane von Furstenberg iconic wrap dress made of upcycled fabric
  • Rosario Dawson is wearing a Vivienne Westwood Couture draped corset gown, in a deep emerald green silk crepe marocain, layered with smoky black tulle petticoat. This special silk was carefully selected from Westwood’s fabric archives, in the name of reducing waste and reviving unused fabrics in stunning couture style.
  • Amanda Hearst wearing a Gabriela Hearst gown made with upcycled Swarovski crystals
  • Maye Musk is wearing an EDUN look, which exemplifies their Made in Africa message and ethical production standards. 

Red Carpet Green Dress is an internationally recognized organization that combines the worlds of fashion and sustainability. Currently in its ninth year, the campaign was conceived by Suzy Amis Cameron during the press tour for her husband, James Cameron's film “Avatar”. Her hope is to draw attention to the importance of more sustainable practices in fashion by challenging designers from around the world to think about fashion in an eco-friendly context. The campaign also raises funds for MUSE School CA, a non-profit educational organization that Amis Cameron co-founded in Calabasas, California.

Lexus Charleston Fashion Week ® (Lexus CFW), one of the leading fashion weeks in the United States, announced its March 13-17, 2018 schedule, and features internationally known designer Yigal Azrouël for Saturday night’s Fashion Finale, runway shows from 12 competing Emerging Designer semifinalists, plus exciting retailer and local designer shows.

Yigal Azrouël, a New York-based fashion designer, will be featured on Saturday, March 17.

Azrouël designs ready-to- wear fashion for the effortlessly cool and confident woman with innovative design, intricately detailed construction and high-quality fabrications.

His creations have been spotlighted in many magazines including Forbes, VOGUE and WWD. Azrouël will also serve on the Fashion Panel under Fern Mallis, who will again lead the effort in determining the 2018 Charleston Fashion Week ® Emerging Designer Competition Winner.

Other panelists include mentor Pauline Sokol Nakios, owner of Lilla P, Charleston’s own fashion favorite, Andrea Serrano and Senior VP of Marketing at Who What Wear, Courtney Wartman.
