For his Spring-Summer 2023 collection, Christian Juul Nielsen turned to the French pantomime character Pierrot Lunaire. In this retelling, Pierrot found himself in an Icelandic flower field after falling to the earth from the moon, surrounded by purple blue lupines, lavender cuckoos, and acid green grass. Pierrot brings with him to earth bits of the silvershine from the moon while still wearing his black headpiece, ruffled shirts, and oversized pants, all accented with tons of tulle. It’s a party this season at Aknvas. Christian Juul Nielsen showed his work in a club-like atmosphere featuring five local New York City models and a live DJ performance by Mona Matsuoka. It was the ideal backdrop for his colorful and tactile work and, adding an extra dose of cool, he shot his fall women’s collection on model Sasha Pivovarova; her images played on screen as the crowd bopped to the music. Who doesn’t want dance a bit these days?

Christian Juul Nielsen made his NYFW debut with AKNVAS. The collection embraced pastels with the occasional pop of bold color. It’s knit-heavy which we love with a touch of street that brings a sense of modernity to its polished DNA.
