Dinner & Reading with Rosie Perez

Such an amazing evening with the one and only Rosie Perez! She came through Atlanta and stopped by Tree Sound Studiosfor an intimate dinner, reading and discussion about her book:

Handbook for an Unpredictable Life: How I Survived Sister Renata and My Crazy Mother, and Still Came Out Smiling (with Great Hair)

. The conversation was moderated by Tree Sound Studio's GM (and Rosie's longtime friend) Mali Hunter who made it clear from the start that we would not be talking about "that TV show on ABC..." Of course, she was referring to The View where Rosie Perez joins Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O'Donnell as a new host.

I just got a copy of Rosie's book and I can't wait to dive in, especially after last night. When the book was first published, Rosie experienced a wave of negativity and backlash. Not having read the book yet myself, I'm not entirely sure what about - though I have an idea. Everything changed, Rosie explained, when Piers Morgan called her up, said" I understand your book and I want to you discuss it on my show." After that interview, apologies and praise flooded Perez.

There were plenty of laughs last night as well. Rosie had everyone in stitches with her story about the first time she appeared on Soul Train. This was hysterical. At home, Rosie said, she had all the dance moves down. It's easy when watching from your television because you make no mistakes. That was not the case when the moment of truth arrived. The Soul Train producer counted her down, 5-4-3-2-1 "GO!" It was time to show off your dance skills through the line. You've only rehearsed this moment one thousand+ times. Rosie got a brain and body freeze. The cameras were on her but she couldn't remember the dance steps so she improvised. Rosie made a new dance up from the moves she remembered and went through the line, nervous as hell, anxiety ridden and dry heaving. When she reached the end of the line, feeling a sense of relief that it was over, she was turned around and pushed back through a second, unexpected time!

Cats, dogs and children are all philanthropic causes for Rosie Perez. I've always been a fan of hers but I've gained even greater respect after listening to the story of her life. So inspiring and with all of her success, Rosie remains very humble. [And yes, I'm so excited to see a Latina on The View!!]

What does the future hold for Rosie Perez, in addition to all the wonderful happenings currently on her (very full) plate... She's headed to Broadway to star in Larry David's "Fish In The Dark."

The Little Red Dress by Kate Spade @ 310 Rosemont Atlanta

Kate Spade
Kate Spade

There's an undeniable allure about a lady in red. She has the power to stop traffic and turn heads. This sizzling number by Kate Spade at 310 Rosemont stopped me dead in my tracks when I visited the Virginia Highland boutique this weekend. Maybe it's the structured pleats or the dramatic bow that I find so appealing? Or maybe it's the open back which give this classic dress a modern edge? Either way, this holiday cocktail season, make RED the new LBD!

Layering Fall Fashion OOTD

Fall Fashion

Fall may not officially be here yet but it's not too early to plan for the season. Fall is my favorite time of year for fashion and personal style. I'm able to comfortably wear layers of clothing in Hotlanta without breaking a sweat.

While I'm not excessively layered here, I am in heavier fabrics - a no-can-do in the Summer. [Just] throw on a vest or v-neck sweater, in a bright color preferably, as the weather cools. Sport a handsome pair of boots like these cap toes from Asos and you'll be good to go!

Blazer, Jack Spade. Shirt & pocket square, Ralph Lauren. Jeans, Uniqlo.

"GOOD MORNINGS"

On most mornings, I’m awake at 3am. I’m not an insomniac... my day actually starts at 3am. My company, The Green Room Agency handles hair and makeup for 11Alive, the Atlanta NBC affiliate.

First comment I usually get is “Wow, you must be a morning person!”

Ha! No way, not at all, ask my Mom about my morning struggles in high school! I am however, a happy makeup artist whenever I can do it, no matter the hour. The show airs live from 5am-7am, so in the span of about an hour and 45 minutes, the entire morning team must be ready! That’s 6-8 people, depending on the day! Over the next few weeks, I’ll take you exclusively behind the scenes and show you how it all gets done! Here’s a look at the action from this morning, which was extra special because Judge Hatchett was a guest......

Fast & Fabulous

Greenroom Agency
Greenroom Agency

Here's a gorgeous before & after, done in 35 minutes!  This is a simple look that started with shaping the brows. There are only 2 colors on the eyes, that's right, just 2: a gold/beige highlight nude at the brow bone, and a dark navy on the lid. Black liner on the top and bottom, and an amazing pair of mink lashes. I am a blush lover (everyone should be wearing it!) so I doubled up with blush and bronzer... love it! With such a great eye, a nude lip was the perfect finish. Quick, simple, and fabulous!

JOAN RIVERS "Can we talk..."

Joan Rivers
Joan Rivers

Joan Rivers stood up from her seat in between tapings of Fashion Police during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York and looked over at the crowd beneath her at Lincoln Center. She was taking in the moment. Both arms perched on the railing. I was looking up. Suddenly, our eyes locked. I was looking at her and she at me. Joan smiled, as did I and then she walked away. That's the closest I've come to meeting Joan Rivers. I've been a fan since the days she used to joke about being "so ugly at birth, her doctor slapped her mother." That's a long time ago. I'm a huge fan and will miss Joan Rivers tremendously. My heart goes out to her daughter Melissa, her family and E! News friends.
