Atlanta Among Most Facial Hair Friendly Cities

Men’s grooming leader Wahl is on a mission to find the best facial hair in the country and research shows Atlanta is one of the best places to look. As the Official Sponsor of Facial Hair, Wahl is bringing its 30-foot mobile barbershop to the 10 Most Facial Hair Friendly Cities in America and 4th ranked Atlanta is up next.

From August 13-14, 2016, Wahl’s Facial Hair Friendly Cities Tour will be at the Piedmont Park Arts Festival. Master barbers will offer FREE facial hair trims while seeking out the guy with the best scruff to sponsor as Wahl Man of Atlanta. That guy will go on to compete for the ultimate title of Wahl Man of the Year. The tour also supports a good cause. For every facial hair trim performed, Wahl will donate $1 to ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer.

“When you’re in the business of celebrating great facial hair like we are, it helps to have a compass,” said Steven Yde, division vice president for Wahl, the Official Sponsor of Facial Hair. “Identifying the most facial hair friendly cities in America not only supports our mission of finding and promoting great facial hair, but it lets guys know where their anti-clean-shaven lifestyle is most welcome.”

To determine the Most Facial Hair Friendly Cities in America, Wahl partnered with market research leader Opinion Research Corporation. The study included in-depth analysis of the online universe over the past year for beard and mustache positivity. Conversations and searches surrounding facial hair were measured, and the top cities were ranked based on overall interest and positive sentiment.

Searching for Best Facial Hair Specimen

Dubbed the ‘mane’ event, the Wahl Man of the Year contest gives facial hair enthusiasts the chance to go mano a mano in a facial hair face-off. Wahl will select one guy from each tour stop location and one guy from online entries. These lucky few will be crowned champion of their city and go on to compete for the ultimate in facial hair glory, Wahl Man of the Year title.

The 10 finalists will each win $500 and a Lithium Ion+ Stainless Steel Trimmer. Online voting will help determine who wins the Grand Prize, which includes the coveted title of Wahl Man of the Year, $1,500 and being featured in a national advertisement.

The contest runs through Sept. 25, 2016, and men can enter by visiting Wahl’s Mobile Barbershop, or by uploading a picture to the Wahl Grooming Facebook page. For more information about Wahl’s Facial Hair Friendly Cities Tour, or Wahl Man of the Year Contest, visit OfficialSponsorOfFacialHair.com.

Recap: A Conversation with Fern Mallis

On Wednesday, August 3rd, the most fashionable destination in the city was without a doubt, the Art Institute of Atlanta. With programs of study such as fashion design, interior design and culinary arts, the Art Institute is a pretty stylish place on a daily basis, but when they hosted fashion icon, Fern Mallis this week, their style meter shot through the roof.

Fern Mallis spoke to a standing room only audience about [her] early years at the CFDA and how [she] created New York Fashion Week. Before the "conversation" however, Fern graciously spent over an hour greeting guests, giving hugs and taking photos.

In the lecture hall, Fern shared details about herself and career to a very captive audience. As she offered advice to students, it was clear that Fern Mallis is authentic, humbly recognizes her accomplishments and believes in giving back. She is so engaging and lights up when telling stories and talking (and humanizing) her famous designer friends such as Calvin Klein. One of my favorites stories - I've heard twice now! - is about a Michael Kors runway show pre-NYFW. The boom and bass from the massive DJ speakers shook the old building so badly that chunks of the ceiling fell onto the runway during the show. Supermodels, Naomi, Linda, Christy sashayed through the rubble, never missing a beat, after all, they were super-models. A large piece of plaster landed on the lap of fashion editor Suzy Menkes! Priceless, but also unsafe. This was the catalyst for creating a centralized fashion week location... the rest... is fashion history.

Fern spoke passionately and proudly about her book Fashion Lives - a large, hardcover coffee table about the lives of some of the greatest American fashion designers - all who started from nothing, many who now have empires.

I'm not only a fashion blogger but a proud educator at the Art Institute of Atlanta. "A Conversation with Fern Mallis" was a huge fashion moment for us, our students and the Atlanta fashion community.
