S/S Trends to Keep an Eye On This Season

We’re creeping out of winter and into the spring, but that means more than just slightly improved weather. It also means that a new fashion season is upon us. While this doesn’t necessarily mean upturning your entire wardrobe and trading it in for something new, you may want to keep an eye on some of the trends arising from the runways, glossy editorial shoots, and social media in order to incorporate a few into your signature look. We’re here to help! Here are a few major S/S trends to consider for yourself!

Gelato Hues

While pastel hues for the Spring may be nothing new, it is once again one of the main fashion trends hitting the runways in a big way. This time, however, they’re coming hand in hand with a different, and rather appealing, name tag: gelato hues. The look is every bit delicious as it sounds.

The way to truly keep on trend with this look is to layer the same pastel color over and over in one outfit. We mean it! Top to toe is the way to go! Sies Marjan recently sent models down the runway in complete pistachio ensembles, and Hermes opted for buttermilk blazers, trousers and handbags in one fell swoop of an outfit, whilst the highlight of Nina Ricci’s latest editorial shoot is a combination of lemon yellow loose fit trousers and vest top cinched in at the waist with a belt of a similar tone. Of course, if you’re not feeling brave enough to don the entire gelato look, start out by testing smooth, toned scarves, handbags, or shoes.

Pins and Patches

Now, traditionally, most of us associate pins and patches with the 1980s punk movement or the serving staff in TGI Fridays. But you can incorporate this trend into any outfit in a much more subtle manner. You don’t have to go overboard like Lisa Simpson in Boy Meets Curl and collect every single pin you can get your hands on. One or two will do. The beauty of this trend is that pins and patches are more than a mere accessory. You can express yourself through them. There are plenty of political pin badges out there that will show your allegiance to a particular party. They are also social movement badges that will help you to show off the part you play in a movement or your solidarity with the said movement. Alternatively, there are pins and patches that are simply fun, with references to popular culture including music, film, television, and even memes.

Denim

Of course, denim is always on trend. It is, after all, the titan of textiles. Think about it: jeans are the majority of the population’s go to item when getting dressed each day. However, the fit, cut, and wash of denim that prevails each season does tend to change. So what should we look out for this season? We’d advise keeping a lookout for dark, selvedge denim. This was last big in 2000, but it’s making a come back thanks to the work of Tom Ford, Nina Ricci, and Versus. Look for items with a neat finish rather than rips and tears. Tailored fits are also preferable to more casual styles. The great thing about finding the perfect pair of jeans for you is that while you will be on trend this season, they won’t suddenly go out of fashion or look tacky or behind the times next season. Any pair of jeans is an investment piece!

Trench Coats

It’s time to take the trench coat from the wardrobe of novel and crime series detectives and place it within your own. This is the ultimate springtime coat, as you need something that isn’t quite as bulky as your reliable winter coat but still protects you from a slight chill and winds. It’s also a classic which can be placed over almost any ensemble without looking odd or out of place. The classic that people tend to consider is made by Burberry. However, buying these coats brand new can prove extremely expensive. Instead, look for high street alternatives or scour vintage stores. You’d be surprised how many original Burberry trench coats are lying about in charity shops and vintage boutiques. While they may not be from the latest line, they will be affordable, and the signature style has remained relatively similar for years now.

These are the main trends of S/S to focus your efforts on. So, go all out and incorporate them all into your personal style, or go for a more subtle approach, picking and choosing what suits you best!

Fashion Trends We Need To Leave In 2017

Some fashion trends aren’t around for very long, and there is often a very good reason for that! After all, flares and platform boots wasn’t really a good look, no matter how much we tell ourselves that it was. Thankfully, they have been left well behind in the 1970s! Similarly, all the huge bouffants of the 1980s didn’t see the light of day ones the 1990s started.

It’s almost the new year, so we will soon see which trends and styles of 2017 will survive and live onto 2018. There will be a few that will survive, but it’s fair to say a few deserve to be left behind in this year for good. Here are some that haven’t impressed us at all.

Formal Crop Tops

Crop tops became pretty big this year, and there’s nothing wrong with them up to a point. However, we noticed that a few celebrities and A-listers began to wear crop tops as part of their formal wear. Ok, so crop tops are perfectly fine in a casual situation but please let’s stop this formal crop top malarkey. Formal dresses need to be elegant and sophisticated. And that is no excuse to get your belly out, no matter how posh you might think it is!

Mom Jeans

We can understand why mom jeans became so big with everyone - they are super comfortable! Of course, there is nothing wrong with cozy clothes. In fact, we agree that there aren’t nearly enough clothes that are comfortable these days. But why should comfortable clothes be so frumpy? These mom jeans took it one step too far and made a lot of glamorous girls look frumpy for no reason!

Cut-Out Shoulders

Have you noticed that a lot of tops this year had no shoulders in them? These cut-out shoulder tops were big news in 2017. In actual fact, they were so popular, it became tricky trying to find any tops with long sleeves that still had their shoulders in tact! We’ve got our fingers crossed that shoulders make a comeback next year.

Plastic Shoes

We’re certainly not fans of blisters, so we are still scratching our heads and trying to figure out why plastic shoes caught on this year. It’s probably because some really big names, such as Kim Kardashian, were photographed wearing them. But not only would these plastic shoes cause some major blisters, they are very expensive for shoes that look very cheap!

Unicorns

Every year, there seems to be an animal that is very popular in the fashion world and designers cover their clothes in it. We’ve already had clothes patterns that feature owls and foxes. Well, in 2017, things certainly took a turn for the more fantastical as unicorns took over. We’re hoping that we have already passed peak unicorn. We’ve spotted unicorn shoes, unicorn handbags, and unicorn-covered jumpers. That’s enough unicorn for now, thanks!

Do you agree that these trends need to stay in 2017? Let us know which ones you think should be forgotten!

4 Fashion Trends That Will Never Go Out Of Style

fashion trends fashionado

It’s often said that fashion is like history. It often repeats itself, so styles skip a decade and then come back into fashion. There is certainly evidence to support this when you look at things like the mini skirt, high shorts and tartans amongst others. But, eventually these will fall out of style again until they re-enter fashion in a few years time. However, there are things that never go out of style. You can pull them out of your wardrobe and wear them or use them no matter what year it is. Let’s look at a few of these items, some of which might be worth a purchase.

Anything Made Of Leather

Leather goods are hardly ever seen as unfashionable. For whatever reason they seem to ooze appeal. Whether you are rocking a stylish leather carry bag or even a cover for your tablet, you’re always going to be in with the trends. But the prime example of a leather item that will always be stylish is the leather jacket. We bet you have got at least one tucked in your wardrobe that you pull out every now and then. Why wouldn’t you? It’s always going to be in fashion, no matter what type of jacket you have got. It could be a bomber jacket from the 70’s or punk leather from the 80’s and you can still wear it today.

If It Fits It Sticks

We know there have been trends where it has been cool to wear clothing that is either incredibly baggy or tight. But what will always be fashionable is wearing clothes that fit. This is how they look their best and stylists know this. Sure, on occasion you may see people wearing jeans hanging off their bottom or a t shirt four sizes too big to cover it. But, we all know that when clothing fits it will always make whoever is wearing it look instantly more stylish. Certainly if you want to look like a gentleman, this is the route to take.

Animal Prints

Like them or loathe them, and goodness knows there are many who can’t stand them, animal prints are always going to be in style. We don’t know what it is about them. It could be that they are linked to being racy and generating sex appeal. Or, it might be that animal prints are actually neutral colors so you can wear them at anytime, anywhere. Of course, these days fashion experts often claim less is more. So, if you are thinking about animal prints, a small accessory is a better choice than a full outfit.

Converse

Finally, it seems unlikely that these will ever go out of style because they have been vintage for a while now. They’re still popular today and while the colors may change, the overall look never does. That’s something that you can’t say about many other shoe brands. It’s why we’re sure that twenty years from now people will still be wearing the shoes star basketball players used to rock. Afterall David Tennant has already embedded them in pop culture with his incarnation of Doctor Who.
