I would like to crawl into the head of John Galliano, for at least a day, and observe his creative thought process, ideas and dreams. (I may need more than a day!) Many might be terrified at the prospect. I'd be fascinated. Intrigued. Inspired.
Clearly, this couture collection for Margiela is about thoughts, concepts, experimentation and exploration. Galliano uses the runway as a stage, canvas and playground to showcase his art. And while at first glance, it often seems ridiculous, after careful observation it becomes apparent that everything he does has purpose and intention. (May sound like a cliche), but the runway is a window into John Galliano's mind. This collection reveals and poses questions about innovation, trends, de/re-construction and the relevancy of haute couture in today's current market.
One footnote, pardon the pun, those boots are too die for...!

Under the towering arches of the American Cathedral in Paris, fashion, history, and cultural heritage came together in a spectacle that transcended time. In Iron Sakura, Lena Erziak explores the eternal tension between softness and steel, poetry and precision, tradition and rebellion.
This couture collection is born from an intimate dialogue between the architectural sensuality of post-war Paris and the ancestral craftsmanship of Japan. During her journey to Japan, and under the gaze of her beloved son, Lena Erziak discovers a world suspended in delicate power. Beneath blooming cherry trees, where petals fall like whispers but return with unwavering constancy, the collection takes root.

It didn't take John Galliano long, but I think that's something Maison Margiela was hoping for when they made him creative director. His thought process is unique and complex. For Fall 2015 Couture, Galliano / Margiela played with contrasts. He makes us think about scale, proportion, beauty and masculinity... Look through the collection and you'll find that while most looks are not so appealing, you can't stop looking. The collection lures you in and seduces the mind.
John Galliano is back. He's found a new home at Maison Martin Margiela where he debuted an Artisanal show that featured (and proving once again) the creative genius that is Galliano. He seamlessly -no pun intended- balanced abundance, minimalism and deconstruction. The looks were edgy and avant-garde but still flirted with enough glamour to tease us. Galliano showcased his talents and expertise through his technical use of fabrics, textiles and embellishments. One of my favorite elements, which is so inherently John Galliano, is his mastery and perception of the unconventional and unexpected. For example, some of the dresses were encrusted with lacquered shells to create faces, reminiscent of the artist Arcimboldo. You don't notice it right away, but when you do, there's a wow-factor. It's this combination of beauty and intellect that is so captivating and leaves us wanting more.
John Galliano is sharp, focused and I'd say refueled and redeemed. I expect a new, exciting and amazing future for Margiela.
